Warning against BD+03 2338: it will RUIN your faction due to bug

Due to one of the longest surviving bugs (since early beta), if you got to BD+03 2338 after signing up for the community goal, dock at Hudson Dock, and accept combat missions for Khasiri Liberals, you will get a *significant* faction hit with the same faction as well as Federation if you succeed (despite the fact that you are killing for them).

If you only stick with combat bonds you will probably be fine. Just do NOT take missions.

This bug has been around since early beta. At the risk of sounding a bit FD-bashing here, why this bug has not been fixed is beyond me, considering how old and how serious it is. I saw this mentioned again in a "faction broken" thread here today, I just wanted to make sure as few as possible get their faction ruined due to this.

I realize I might be a tad optimistic, but I would love to hear from a dev on this. Is this bug forgotten or is it of such complexity that I cannot be easily fixed?

And I am getting zero faction (negative or positive) for handing in the bonds. Also, on the community mission, both me and my friend testing this are getting 0 credits earned.

Amazing - it seems the whole event is broken?!?

You need to hand in the bond at Matteucci for it to count toward community goal. Handing it in on other docks does NOT count. There's a lot of misinformation in the forums claiming you can hand it in everywhere (technically true for normal bonds, but for community goal it's misleading).

On the faction, I did not really bother checking as some says the rep effect is laggy and only appear around 20 mins after you cash the bonds. Since i don't usually hang around that long (cashing in means I am doing something else soon and need to turn off game) I have no idea.

Report it as they have obsoleted all old bugs in old system. QA response times especially to well written bug tickets are improved, so it is worth to report it again.

Since around 1.05, it takes a long time for bounties and combat bonds to take effect - but they do. I've seen the blue arrow after 20-30 minutes of sitting in dock (the one time I decided to wait and see if it ever happened). Now I just trust it's happening behind the scenes.

The other one is because the mission, odd as it is, doesn't care which side you pick, or even if you kill both sides. Combat missions tend to give negative rep against every faction that you might have targeted, not just the factions you did target. E.g. a kill pirate mission gives negative rep against all pirate factions in that system, not just the specific pirate factions you happened to kill for that mission. Same with warzone missions. It's dumb, and needs to be changed.

To me the strangest this is that this mess has been in game since early beta and still persists. I would, naively perhaps, think that faction would be one of those rather easy things to take care of. Get a mission to go to a war zone and fight for one side should lead to positive faction for your chosen side and negative for the other :)
 
I too reported the warzone negative faction bug during beta. That one should really have been fixed a long time ago, and all warzone missions should have been removed until they fixed the bug!
 
As i am currently trying get my rank up for all factions, i total avoided this community goal due to reports of rep loss on the forums, so thanks for posting things like this.

Well, to be fair, when I finally went back to Matteucci Terminal and handed in my bonds there, I *did* get community goal progress, and positive faction for Federation and Khasiri Liberals. So participating in this community goal can be both fun and rewarding (just be aware that there can be a long (half an hour or so) lag between handing in bonds and getting faction/community goal update).

Just stay away from the warzone missions, and you'll be fine.

Still, I would love a developer chiming in on the warzone missions though. Right now they are faction suicide, which I do not think was the intention :)

Oh and for those who didn't know: in BD+03 2338 there is actually another conflict zone further out - this one is high intensity and has a Fed capital ship. Yay! :)
