WARNING CMDR'S First Contact Blew My Headphones

I've been fortunate enough to not suffer a Thargoid interdiction in previous months. With the release of 2.4, I read that there were a lot of changes to sounds. Being a bit of an audio buff, I had my headphones a little higher volume than usual. As I was exploring I saw "Non-human Signal Source" and naturally got excited.

I dropped from SuperCruise and to my dismay all that was in front of me were some wrecked ships. As I looked at my contacts tab and saw "Unknown" I decided I would turn around and check it out, I knew what it would be..

As I brought my ship around I suddenly heard 'BWAAAAHHHHAAAAHHHH' as I was being scanned then another loud noise, and then a crackle in my headphones... which hasn't stopped...

I just want to warn fellow cmdr's, those suckers are loud.. check your volume levels before checking any "Non-human Signal Source" :(

Gotta love it! Have some rep for being the first to experience damage "IRL".

Seriously though, every once in a blue blue blue BLUE moon, I'll hear tell of someone who blew their speakers or headset because "they got excited" and turned their volume up just a tad too loud. Sounds like something I would do! :)

Get it... sounds like something I would do... sounds like....

>crickets<

Ouch! That sucks. Rep++

Thanks for the warning.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
As usual, the sound design in Elite Dangerous is second to none.

If a bit loud sometimes. ;)

Nice in terms of the audio team. Question for you though, what set of cans were you using?

Take a very close look at the earpieces of your HPs. Sometimes a hair gets stuck between the membrane and your ear which will rattle on low to low-mid freqs.
Halfway decent HPs are very very hard to blow up. I´ve been working in audio for over 20 years and it never happened to me once.

And, as it has been set numerous times, terrific & very tasteful work by the audio team!

I firmly believe the FDev Audio Department should win some sort of award for their always awesome use of sound - everytime they introduce something new it is always astounding, and this is no exception. It's the attention to detail, not just the music or the explosions, but the smaller things, the grating noises, the small little audio cues.

Lol, almost same. I have a TB R60p that can either be plugged straight into headphone jack, or amplified through usb. Normally I'm lazy and just plug the 3.5mm in, but when I first heard that sound I immediately switched so I wouldn't blow them with too little power for too much volume. Really glad I did, because it sounds like playing that noise not EQ'd and amplified is like a recipe for speaker death.

I love the extra resonance of the computer's voice on larger bridges :) Quite a marked difference between AspX and Anaconda. The ships all seem to have their own signature creaks and groans during planetfall, too.

Hope you were wearing ear plugs. If it was loud enough to do that, surely it was loud enough to cause actual hearing damage? Did you feel a tickling sensation in your inner ear?

After years of working concerts and being close to speakers, my ears have been through enough damage that they were not harmed. A bit loud, but that's how I like it ;)

The sound design in this game is astounding.

Ah. I've always had problems with Razer myself. I don't use their stuff anymore. For longest time I had a steel series headset but now I'm rocking Sennheiser HD 598's and the difference is massive.

Honestly not surprised to hear about a Razer product failing. When they first started they had seriously good stuff in a bland market. Old original diamondback mice lasted forever and their mechanical keyboards used Cherry MX switches. Now it's all cheap knockoffs which is a shame cause they make stuff that looks cool.
