Currently, the game warns you with a big pop-up message and an audible warning whenever you go over 100% power capacity and the ship starts cutting nonessential systems.
But isn't that the point of nonessential systems?
I recommend that, when cutting power to lower priority systems (as set by the player), the game should not give a visible or audible warning. Those systems were made lower priority for a reason, they should be cut automatically with no fuss. The warning can remain for P1 systems or whenever power is cut to anything considered a critical component, such as life support. The player setting should override this, since a lot of players (myself included) have FSD as a P2 system since you can't jump with weapons deployed anyway.
That actually makes me want to recommend full-on player-created power profiles. Where the player can manually set power profiles based on certain ship conditions, such as whether weapons are deployed. "When hardpoints depolyed, cut power to FSD, Fuel Scoop, Discovery Scanner", etc, and to be able to automatically cut power to combat-specific components like Shield Cells or Boosters when hardpoints are stowed.
