Warning! : Incoming Impulse Attack!

I noticed this come up last night during a firefight with an NPC.
There were no missiles (that I could discern) and my point defences didn't fire.
I didn't take any (major) damage that I could tell either - though I was under fire at the same time, so hard to be sure.

In short, I was really puzzled as to what this was referring to. It even came up in the events log too, so must have been something vaguely important.
It didn't cause me any problem in the fight, but curiosity has got the better of me and I wanna know what it was! Heh!

Anyone know?

I've been hearing that a lot too, particularly at high-Res sites. I usually get it from the squirrelly little ships like eagles and Vipers.

Generally when I take a hit from one of those it is enough to take off a ring or two of my shields. But after my shields go down, I don't see much in the way of hull damage if I take another impulse shot.

My guess is as good as anyone's, but I'm thinking "impulse" attacks do additional damage to shields and reduced damage to the hull.

I haven't thought to look at my modules after taking an unshielded hit from one of those yet, though. It could be the engineer mod that has an additional chance to interrupt module operation or cause additional module damage, maybe?

Most impulse attacks are ones that cause you to build heat up. It's a modded weapon that 98% of NPC's carry around, in the form of plasmas for sure. I think also rails. but not sure what else.

Edit: that's my best guess- because it always happens after NPC plasma and i always hear "temperature rising" (or something similar) directly after.

Oh, I see. I thought that would have been thermal attack?

You're not kidding. I was just hanging around a Nav Beacon when all of a sudden, IMPULSE ATTACK is all over my screen and my heat level is 145%!! Wasn't wanted or anything, but I suppose it could have been a faction enemy I hadn't spotted. They hurt pretty bad because if you fight back, boost or anything to get away, well, there's some more heat for you. That was scary. :D

If they have a single modded weapon on board they can also have a second modded weapon on board.
Thermal attack is the voice info for being cooked,
impulse attack is knockback.
The voice feedback can only give out a single info.

This is normal for an Impulse Attack. What's the problem?

Me? I don't have a problem, I was just trying to find out what an impulse attack is. Never seen one before.

Ah, it was quite crowded and I was thrusting sideways. Could have bumped into someone and set them off maybe?
