Just to warn others: I've just had three Material Trader trades fail with the error below - each time what was being traded was removed from my material storage but the expected increase to the desired material did not take place.

Logged out to desktop and back in to the game and it seems to be working OK again, for the moment.

After logging in were your mats restored?
There's another mat bug where when you buy a tech brokers ore eng sco fsd the mats are not removed from your inv, so it looks like you can buy unlimited,. Buy a few fine but as soon as you try to buy an fsd, when you technically should have run out of mats, BOOM sky blue pink giraffe error and you're kicked out of the game.

That is weird. The entire point of a transaction system is to make sure that if stuff like this doesn't work, it always goes back to the last state.
I mean, if it's a transaction server error, likely that's not working correctly right?

For what it's worth @Robert Maynard , way back in the past I've lost missions when handing them in, cargo when jumping from one system to another, all from transaction errors.

The cargo one was particularly brutal... i was scooping UAs at the time (back when they were UAs and not a thargoid sensors, and CRCRs weren'ta thing), and I'd scoop multiple, jump to a new system, transaction error, relog, I'd have all the damage from having UAs, but none of them in my hold (and no, wasn't them falling out due to corrosion).

I couldn't guess at how the transaction server works, but when it fails, it hurts.

Thanks for the heads up (y). I did some material trading a couple of weeks ago and it was working for me then...🤔...I've been out (of the bubble) mining for the last week, I still need to top up on some mats at some point, so when I do and need to use a mat's trader I'll bear this in mind.;)

Interesting that this happened at 15 mins past the hour.

Given the stuttering issues also happen then, are we seeing a conflict between scheduled server tasks of some kind?

Well, no. The entire point of having transactions is so you can tally the figures and work out what the correct state should be if you caught an error. It's like an ant trail you can follow to recreate the correct state at a given point. If it detected an error at a given point in time (which it apparently did) it should be able to wind it back. If the entire transaction system is so buggered it's recording incorrect info such that it can't do the job, then it's not really being a transaction system anymore.

... which appears to be what is happening when there's transaction server errors. It's failing to maintain the integrity of the transactions
