Balls. Is pretty much what I said as I tried to squeeze my lovely new Anaconda through the TINY station exit. I said quite a bit more - expletives mainly - when after reducing it to 25% hull I was then fired upon by the station and rather a lot of NPC's for damaging the station on my way out.

So. PLEASE dev's. Please do two things.

1. Make the entrance a LOT bigger.
2. When purchasing a ship that costs over 1million credits do us the decency of including a basic docking computer.

I lost 7billion credits mostly, I'll admit, to not making sure I had enough to pay for the insurance, but also because it was near on impossible to fit the bloody ship through the hole. Such an awful terrible loss. 4 nights of solid graft until 4 am, up in smoke in the blink of a blood shot pair of eyes.

Is there a button I can press an external view of the ship?

(I'm sure there any many other posts like this)

Incidentally - whilst I only have 300,000 credits left, I am actually looking forward to making it all back again.

Peace and love!

no external views yet but getting an anaconda out isn't that hard, no idea why you had so much trouble.

did you leave the landing gear down? this adds a good 30-40 meters to the height or the ship and makes getting out a lot more difficult.

with the anaconda the pilot sits at the top of the ship, on your way out get close enough to the top of the port to make sure you're clear at the bottom.

as for getting back in, it just takes practice. i am now good enough to hit the slot at full speed with 4 pips to the engine and can get in without even scraping the shields.

stopping is another matter at that speed - you end up a few meters past the spike at the other end of the station so you need to point the ship downward a little once through the door.

I think perhaps I mistakenly assumed that the ship sloped upwards from the front and that the flight deck would scrape the top of the exit. Thanks for the tip!

I scrape the top / bottom or whatever in the Anaconda, but with enough throttle and full shields I get through OK. Never tried a docking computer, all the reports I've seen say it's too slow, and I'd rather try my lack of driving skills.

The problem is that you are never quite sure of how much of the ship is above / below / to the side of you. The same issue occurs even in docking when you seem to be miles above the deck even compared to a type 9, and yet you find you are scraping along.

I may be misreading things but somehow we need some sort of manoeuvring display that shows relative ship size and proximity to obstructions.

ok, time for the anaconda docking speed challenge video to be made, expect me to post it by Monday as i have to get used to playing with only one screen first - fraps with 3 means you need a magnifying glass to see what's going on.

the challenge:

4 pips to engines,
Full speed
no slowing down until you're through the port.
FA on

survive to land and you've beaten it.

fraps recording must start when in SC and full speed must be applied as soon as dropping to normal space.

With the Anaconda, you want to feel like your going to scrape the top of your ship on the wall above you when you go though. There is only a little bit of the ship above your own cockpit, so feeling like your going to hit (but you wont) makes sure you are clear on all sides.

A thing to do when you have a new ship and no money to replace it, is to take things slow, run a slow speeds when doing though that docking port. The Type 9 has more issues going thorough that little slit then the Anaconda does. Both ships are the same thickness, but the Type 9 is 3x as wide, which makes getting through that thing that much harder.

can anyone suggest an alternative to fraps? the free version only records for 30 seconds and i've already lost one anaconda while fumbling for the record button :(

I have one vid that shows me docking at full speed but it only shows me going though the slot, none of the build up or even much of the slow down after :(

plus i think i pushed the framerate too high, its as jumpy as a drug dealer at a DEA convention :(

ShadowPlay, never tried it but it might work

Raptr has a decent video capturing option and Elite: Dangerous is in the supported games list. It's a social/gaming app.

thanks, no way am i paying for fraps just to record one vid

now all i need to do is get used to one monitor, i dont expect a free program to have a crop function to make the output usable.

I'll try Raptr first as that has AMD splashed all over the page so may work better win my card ;)

thanks, I've tried it as Raptr crashes the game (and itself) and shadowplay doesnt work with my card. one problem though is OBS boils my CPU, i think i need better cooling before i use it as 90 degrees C shuts my PC down.

oh well, back to the drawing board :(

90° C definitly sounds like a problem, my i7 860 never goes above 60° even when working on full load.

AMD 8 core on a stock cooler, i bought a nice heatsink for it but i cant put it in and keep 4 sticks of memory as it covers 2 of the slots and is too close to the board to put any in under it.

3. Add a UI to help bigger ships through the docking port (i.e. this is already planned):

if you've played the game long enough to afford an anaconda, you SHOULD be able to dock it !

I routinely scrape my Anaconda a bit when entering or exiting if I'm not paying attention. With full pips to shield you should be unharmed.

Crashing into another Anaconda or a Type 9 is a very bad idea though.

With the anaconda you're sat on top of the ship.

Which makes it annoying to fly at first until you get the hang of it. Plus the landing gear. Why people leave it down is a mystery.
