Newcomer / Intro Warzones and Blockades

One thing that bothers me deeply about Elite is how players can interact with blockades and warzones. Lets say i have this system which i want to blockade. For what purpose? What will I gain by blockading a system? How to do it? And about warzones? How can i interact with them? Thank you

Players really can not effectively block a system or station. You can always switch to solo where those players do not exist and then switch back. That said, people who stay open all the time for whatever reason (immersion for example) can be blocked, maybe not 100% but enough.

A warzone is just a point in space where a war is going on. When you enter it, you should choose a side (in the functions menu). Choose wisely, you can gain and lose reputation there. Be ready to die if you are not an experienced fighter, there can be a lot of opponents there. Better use a cheap ship while you are still learning. To learn fighting i would suggest nav beacons and extraction sites, scan for wanted ships and blow them up.

So how can i tilt the influence of a system? So, i can't make a Fed system turn Independent. Or conquer an Empire system in the name of the Alliance. Can i at least change the controlling faction by engaging warzones and quests against that faction?

Now don't take this analogy the wrong way :)

You are just a mere ant trying to move a giant.
Only coordinated efforts by a bunch of people can make some shifting happen. That said, all actions you take do have a (minor) influence.
Doing missions for a certain faction, will boost their 'hold' over a system.
Then they might expand, and reach into other systems.
There still a lot not know about these mechanics, but have a read through this :

It was primarily about a possible bug in the background simulation, but it might shed some light on your question.
