Was a sceptic now a convert :) Interested in what VR&HOTAS users are using for on foot control?

I guess I am being lazy and should just take off the head set but wondered if anyone has worked out a near to seamless control set up?

I tried using the HOTAS, but they still have head tracking broken in VR (when on foot). I haven't tried TrackIR in pancake mode yet, but I assume it is still broken too (when on foot). I think I'm going to go back to keyboard/mouse controls, which I haven't really used since Doom/Quake, and play in pancake mode. And I'll probably need to buy a gaming mouse as well for more buttons. Or just skip the on foot stuff until they fix it, assuming they ever do.

Anyway, I was using the throttle for motion, and the joystick for turning (Z), strafing (X), and forward/back (Y). And then all the buttons and Voice Attack for everything else. It worked OK and it was something I think I could become proficient at. But w/o proper head tracking, you can't aim the guns and tools or look up and down without using the mouse. But switching from joystick to mouse and back is not practical. I might give throttle and mouse a try to stay in VR.

I've got a gamepad that I can pick up for On foot. But at least during the beta there was a problem that I couldn't get my bindings right so that I could do all the menu actions without having to move my hand back to the joystick.

Because the best device/controller to control the game is different for each mode (flying/driving/walking) the game really needs for it to be possible to have any action to be mapped to an arbitrary number of inputs.

edit:

I've been using:
Hotas for flying
Wheel + Pedals + Joystick for driving (joystick for turret control, and to control orientation when jumping)

And was intending to add gamepad for walking to that setup. But it really doesn't work well if I have to move my hand to the joystick when navigating any menus. Might have to invest in voiceattack or something

I tried setting up a gamepad but too many controls it seems, so i am now in the process of configuring voice attack to do everything, it should work out nicely and be somewhat lore friendly i'd say.

Off topic, THIS BETTER RENDER IN VR SOON. This game is too good so far, even playing just with a game pad.

I currently switch from HOTAS to Xbox controller for SRV, I imagine I will do the same for on foot, unless keyboard mouse makes more sense, though my desk layout would have to change to accommodate that.

I’m not a VR player but I do use the Tobii eye tracker.
I’d imagine a controller would make sense as the sticks centre when released unlike a mouse.

Thanks everyone for input I'm going to spend some time with Voice attack and see if I get on with that.

What I am using for walking? Mouse and keyboard of course! No analog stick can ever substitute mouse movement for me. It's choppy and feels unnatural.

I have pretty small desk, no space to have both HOSAS setup and KBM setup available for easy switching, so I'm trying to set up everything on HOSAS (movement on left-hand mini-stick, view on right-hand stick axis). However, there are so freaking many buttons needed I'm not sure I'll manage. Played only for an hour so far, though, then lost connection to servers and went to bed.

HOTAS for flying and I grabbed a super cheap deal on a Razer Nostromo for the left side of my HOTAS setup for the walking stuff my keyboard is blocked by my HOTAS. Still getting used to the Nostromo but it has just enough buttons to cover most of the walking stuff
