Was escaping close binaries always this easy?

Earlier today I encountered my first dangerously close binary suns (after nearly 4000 systems).

I could drop out of SC fast enough and with use of a heat sink I suffered only minimal damage. After that I couldn't engage SC again because I kept getting disconnects. When I resumed playing some time later not only were my heat sinks magically refilled, I also joined and this point:

Is this intended? I liked the idea of at least a little risk while out exploring...

I've been disconnected while in witchspace and when I re-connect I'm at the destination star at about the same distance as your second pic.

So now I'm wondering if you can "combat log" upon entry to a close binary to escape. You mentioned the heatsink you used returned when you reconnected. Did damage from that entry go away, too?

The hull damage is the same but I didn't check the module damage before exiting the game. Since I immediately used a heat sink, it could be I instantly dropped under the treshold for hull damage but took additional module damage that was gone after logging in again..

Two days ago I suffered 10% hull damage when I entered a binary consisting of two almost identical F stars almost touching. Those are the most dangerous.
The first star had ~0.1% larger mass, but the second had ~1% larger radius.

It was the first damage from binaries since January for me.

That's not a dangerous as flying through the middle 1 or 2 stars on your way into a system, something I have a number of times. And wonder why I am still in SC.

This sort of near miss use to bring you our of SC and give you hull damage.
