Newcomer / Intro "Was it Something I Said?": Trespass Alerts on Departure

Hello all,

New Pilot - got the game on Friday and I'm enjoying it immensely. But there's something that has me scratching my head, and since I can't find any reference to this in any of the stickied threads here, I'll put my question to you.

Lately when I depart a coriolis starport, I've been getting trespass alerts almost the second I clear the opening. I'm told that I don't have permission to be here and that if I don't leave I can expect lethal force.

Since I'm already leaving, I throttle up a bit and get away from the station. A few seconds later, I get a message indicating the "infraction has been cleared and docking privileges are restored."

Now the first time this happened, an Asp came up behind me, almost scratching the paint on my Sidewinder. I thought the alert might have been because I wasn't watching the traffic and so got too close to the Asp. But all the later times I've had no other traffic even close to me.

I've checked to see if the infractions have resulted in fines or bounties (they haven't), and I'm able to dock at the station again. So what's going on here? Am I going too fast - or too slow? Did I forget a secret handshake?

I'll answer any questions about the incidents to the best of my ability if it will help clear this up.

Thanks,

Andrew

I get this message from time to time as well, in addition to "no loitering at pad" warning when I fly too close to another pad when coming in to dock. I think station services are just a bit over-zealous. Interestingly enough, they rarely seem to call me on my speeding!

Could also just be that the Sidewinder is a slower ship, and you might just not be clearing the mail slot quickly enough for their liking. Are you exiting thestation on the side with the green light? Other than that, there's nothing I can think of that you're actually doing wrong!

You don't get fined for trespass warnings. Just make sure you clear the area before the timer runs out to avoid being destroyed by station security.

You just need to go faster through the slot.

I`ve had this. Had me puzzled too. The logic seems to be that you`re being too slow and careful at the opening- a bit like driving too slowly in the fast lane. Speed up a little and it`ll no longer be a problem.

So the consensus is I'm leaving too slowly. I'll watch my speed next time and try to make sure I'm fast enough. Thanks!

Hal 9000 - I wasn't aware coriolis starports had multiple openings - the ones I've come across only have one. But then I haven't gone very far in my travels yet...

No, all stations have just one entrance. What HAL meant was that the "mail slot" has "green and red side" - if you look at the sides, there are green lights on one side and red light on the other. General consensus is to go through the slot on the "green side" (even NPCs do it)
If you are entering/ leaving the station on the red side or through the middle, you are more likely to bump into someone.

He's referring to the navigation lights on each side of the mail slot. If you look, you'll see one side has red lights, and the other side green lights. Stick toward the side of the slot with the green lights to help avoid collisions with other ships.

Not multiple opens, but a green and a red lit side to the main opening. You'll notice that when you're flying in, one side has green lights and one has red - ALWAYS fly on the side with the green.

That's how they account for which is the "right side of the road" when the road in fact is rotating constantly. But as others have said, it's likely just a speed issue. When you get a few ships in you'll have the opposite kind of speed issue :p

EDIT: Double ninja'd

Okay then. It's easier for me to notice and heed the red/green lane issue on departure than it is on arrival - I'm still at the stage where my biggest concern on entry is getting through the opening without hitting anything!

And the speed issue was it - I just did a run from Azeban City to Dahan Gateway; kept my speed in the blue area while passing through the opening and didn't get yelled at by control! So, thanks everyone!

Bad things happen if you crash because you're going over 100m/s whilst coming in or out of dock. NPC's are the worst offenders, they blindly ram you into the slot wall, you get stuck, you get the fine...and if you don't clear it quick, they will clear it for you with lethal force, all because some npc in a beluga needs to hog the hole .

Take small steps buddy, there's a lot to learn

I appreciate what you are saying, but once you get to fly the big ships you will begin to realise that the slot is MUCH larger than you realise. In fact so large that you can fly a sidewinder through it rotated by 90 degrees with room to spare. I never got this feeling from flying through it but worth loitering near the slot (you don't want a fine so not too near) and watching various sized ships pass through.
.
Give it time and you will be amazed how good you will become at it.
.
P.S. it is a whole lot easier if you aim for a point in line with but a little distance away from the slot. Get yourself lined up and then fly in.

Just to add to the info, you do want to fly fairly quickly through the slot to avoid the trespass warning, around 90 is enough.

But be aware that if you fly too fast (over 100) and accidently hit another ship (or they hit you) you'll get a reckless flying fine.

These are typically small, 400 credits or something like that, but you'll have to pay them off next time you're at the station if you want to maintain a clean record :)

By the way, I still get an occasional trespass warning even now, usually when I'm in a big ship. It's not the end of the world as long as you keep going and clear the slot area.

Have fun and fly safe!

By the way, the entrance is HUGE, it may not look it, but it is. Someone posted a video showing the sizes, especially to your starting ship - Hopefully they will again.
