Was there really no other way?

I feel kinda dirty.
But sometimes you've got to fight that gag reflex and just swallow.

I'm in my second year of playing this game.

I've been staunch. I've been patient. I've been successful, but I've been beaten.

And now I've given in.

Say it isn't so?

It's true:

DNA-Decay has joined the Federation Navy:

The kids have been asking to see Sol for a long time.

Was there really no other way?

It's red.

Should I be worried?

Always if it's red. Avoid away missions at all costs and if CMDR Ryker is on the ship - Get off it now! Every time Cpt. Picard leaves him in charge the ship blows up, how he made it through the academy I'll never know.... But I have a feeling TJ may be to blame! :D

When I first started playing, I moved to Federation space, purely to rank up and unlock ships.

Then I moved to Empire space to rank up, just to unlock ships.

Now that I maxed out my ranking with both the Feds and the Empire, I moved to Alliance space to - well, increase my reputation with the minor factions and gain a friendly status.

To this day i have not pledged to any Powerplay side, I like to fly where ever I please, seeing system authority ships show up as green squares on my scanner and being greeted as "Respected Ally" in quite a few systems.

I guess I am trying to play this game the way I played Freelancer, either friendly or a neutral status with minor factions, never a hostile faction to come across. It made the game a peaceful experience trading.
Except for the alien race, i had to destroy their ships so i could salvage their alien weapons.

I am still hoping that one day, maybe just one day, we will be able to down a Thargoid vessel and salvage their weapons which magically fits the hardpoints on my Python MK-II.

You should ashamed, you damned Turncoat!

Sent from my Federal Dropship

I am - and that's kinda the whinge.

Although I respect those that I know personally, - I don't believe there should be Rear Admiral Kings.

I got the Achenar permit and a Clipper by accident. when Arissa was coronated Emperor there was a CG to transport slaves to be skinned for the new palace curtains. She was so taken with the way the morning light filtered through the pale tattoos that she declared "You get a Clipper! You get a Clipper! You all get a Clipper!" at a discount without rank.
I went down to LeRoy Rui's used ship lot where the discounts stacked and upgraded from a T-6 for 15 MCr. The tattoo on the co-Pilot's seat was kinda creepy, but I found an Achenar permit in the glovebox with a slave tooth bracelet.

Not that I lifted a finger or transported slaves. I reckon she just forgot to exclude the Alliance plebs from the rewards tier, and the Imperial lackeys excecuted the order without question.

Anyways eventually I took a hundred tons of Harma biowaste to Achenar to say uh "Thank" you.
Dumped it in the airlock at Dawes Hub.
Laughed as all the fines clocked up like an old slot machine giving a big payout.

So I hoped I'd get a Sol permit some other way.

I won't hold it against you, but I do think there should be other ways. Doesn't look like I'll ever be going to Sol, unfortunately.

I mean, I could always just supercruise there if that was a thing in the game, and risk the fuzz scanning me at stations or the like... [yesnod]

I've been trying to hold of ranking up with the hopes that Military Careers will come in 2.4...

Unfortunately in my quest to unlock & G5 all Engineers I've had to break that a little :(

Now I'm thinking of going one up on Fed so I can get access to Sol.

So I hoped I'd get a Sol permit some other way.

Like the Alliance the Federation doesn't have to bribe CMDRs to like them.

And let's be honest, there aren't that much differences between the Alliance and the Federation. I know, I know, but really if you step back a bit and look at it. Two superpowers, both claiming to be democratic. If the leaders of the Federation and Alliance could drop their egos we could have an Alliance Federation and nobody would notice the difference.

First off, I love it when people feel that they can be themselves on a forum.

Second, your forum Elite rank is higher than your in game Elite ranks. lol :D

What about us mere Ensign Dukes? Yeah I get ya though, personally can't see the point of having all big three.

Clippers a fine ship and which I have tucked away safely somewhere when I want to do activities which would ah...not go down so well with Victoria ;)

You could always do you dirty Fed ranking exclusively with one of the Fed rebel factions like the Wealth Redistribution Party, just don't be afraid of hauling a few hundred tons of Battle weapons....

Not sure about that. Maybe no one in the Federation would notice.

I characterise it this way:

That's just your view on the Alliance with rose tinted glasses. Take a look at how the Alliance acts. It's an expansionist superpower. If anything the Alliance are the bulldogs that force systems to compliance.

How many systems "joined" the Alliance in the last two years? How many of those systems joined via elections and how many joined by war or civil war?

Be honest, the Alliance is not that different to the Federation (just maybe more successful in actually taking over systems).

1) I am strongly of the opinion "It's not the game - it's you"
The choices you make in the game reflect who you are and what you desire.
(Although Slavoj Zizek argues that film is the ultimate 'perverse medium' because it teaches not WHAT to desire, but HOW to desire. And you could make the same case about the game. It guides you into emotionally investing in some aspect, and then offers you an ethically poor solution and no consequences.)

2) I'm into the game politics in-game and out.
I care about the playergroups and how they interact. I believe certain personalities are attracted to certain groups. I also believe that this forum is only a slice of the playerbase, and that Group oriented players spend less time here. Group oriented players have their own villages - this forum kinda scoops up the loners. While still being a social platform.

It's one of the reaons I get annoyed when the mods shuffle good ideas of to the less populated outer reaches. I always hope that suggestions will get left in Dangerous Discussion for a couple of days to get kicked around before being put out to grass in the suggestions sub. Same with astronomy news, it could usefully hang around Dangerous Discussion a little longer.

There was a thread on the topic of forum rep and I got to thinking about what counted. Number of posts? Amount of rep?
I decided that what I liked most was the ration of Rep to Posts.
Someone like ToSoCo doesn't have a lot of posts, but he gets a whole lotta rep.

posts 2227
forum rep 1428
infractions 5
ratio of Rep to posts: 64%

We don't view it as Empire building - we see it as a greening initiative.

Bringing civilization, education, culture, infrastructure… that's what all empire building empires all through history said. ;)

It doesn't matter how you see it, what matters is what it is - empire building using force and oppression.
