Wasting time searching for commodities at stations

I'm really getting at the end of my line here guys. Long story short: yesterday I have spent (wasted) hours for looking for some commodities to finish some missions, and everytime I arrived at a station which exported that commodity according to the galaxy map, I couldn't buy any, because they were sold out. I was frustrated as hell. Even the online databases had bad datas about them, because they weren't updated regularly.

Why isn't this working like in EVE Online, where you can look up any commodity and see which station sells it at what price at any give moment? What do we gain by wasting time looking for stuff in dozens of stations, when travelling takes up a lot of time in itself?

Sure, there are online trading tools, but they are not getting correct data from the game API, they are just databases uploaded manually by players, so they are out of date a lot of time. And then there are the import/export signs in the galaxy map, which are basicly useless, since many times you can't but the stuff which they are exporting. How the hell they are exporting it then?

I like this game, but things like these are really testing my patience. Spending hours just travelling around adds nothing to gameplay. This really needs to change. I hope Frontier will make the API open in the future, so we can get trading tools with correct data.

I'm sorry for wenting these things like that, but among the many positives and awesome gameplay this games has, there are things which just wastes your time.

Were you going to the correct star port within the system?

As in Say you were looking for Titanium, and you found the system that has an export line for Titanium in the Galaxy map.

That system might be a Refinery Economy, or it might be a mixed Type Economy and have several commodities markets, for each economy type, so docking at a non Refinery one will yield the Titanium you are looking for.

Also check the state of the faction controlling the market as that will effect supply and demand.

@ J_C worth noting, to get commodities information close to your location, you go into your "Commanders Log" scroll to the bottom and set your current location :) o7

I have an Inara account and it is always on the money. I also use Thrudds trading tool. I can always locate whatever I am searching for with little to no effort or loss of time. With just these two resources the game can't be any easier, granted I never played such an easy game as Eve online. Maybe elite is just too difficult and a lower level commitment requirement would suit your needs better? There really should be a warning/disclaimer on this game, would reduce the hardships so many tend to believe they are enduring.

Just to add my voice to those advocating Inara, it really is a fantastic resource, especially if you take the time to enter all your details, materials & so on. Thrudds is also very useful, but I find myself using eddb.io far more these days, especially when trading. I find it a bit more accurate, & lets you search for good trades in general, not just between stations you chose manually. It's been a while since I used Thrudds though, so that functionality may have been added since.

I tired trading without using any out of game tools before.

It's impossible.

The map is just completely incorrect most of the time. Systems that export things, don't have any in stock most of the time.

I went back to using eddb.io or inara.cz
(Then gave up trading entirely)

But FD should do something about the status of the map. We shouldn't have to leave the game to find a reliable source of trade data.
If a system says it exports Fish, going there should mean atleast 1 station should sell lots of Fish.

Well, this is not about the game being too difficult, it is about the time wasted. Which might be a problem for you too, if you use tools like Thrudds and Inara. But if you say that these tools are good for the job, I will check them out.

if you use the markettools to see where commodity is on offer, pay attention as well to the amount of tonnage (supply) of that system. It it has a supply of for example 150, it's more likely to be sold out by the time you arrive there as when you go to a station which has a supply of 10.000 of that same commodity. I'll gladly fly another 100LY just to make sure I find what I need.

When you can make 50,000,000cr per hour doing long distance trade missions I'm surprised anyone does old school trading anymore. Must be a roleplay thing.

I know, right? It's not the income king it used to be, and it's dull. I'm surprised people still do it.
