Watch it and weep

Mines that cancel the FSD charge and reboots the FSD AND torpedos that mass locks ships.

My wet dream but of course this will probably result in more logging in the end.. but you know.. it would be great in a perfect universe. It's also going to become the average gankers wet dream. How I wish those were the minority compared to pirates.

Yup, fire a torp to mass lock that pirate scum and drop a FSD mine behind me to reset his drive while I high wake it out of there. By the time he follows my wake I'll be two systems away. I love it.:p:D

Well I'll mostly use it for the Anacondas, if you run in a small ship you aren't getting very far.

I'll post the video here once the livestream finishes.

And then there's also the 'mass lock' torpedo.
And the FSD reset mines.

Love these new ideas.
You can also use the mines for defense to prevent someone jumping after you.

Probably make the Clipper popular again.

For other ships (like an Anaconda), I can't see the mines being much of a problem. Anyone interdicted by, and trying to escape from a Pirate is going to boost away as soon as soon as he hits realspace. Dropping mines several Km in his wake isn't going to do much. Also, I assume, the torpedoes are going to need to lock on. That is going to be tricky when your target is hurtling away spaffing chaff for all he's worth.

Also, do these torpedoes mass-lock like a ship, or like a station? If it's the former, they won't be much use as they won't stop high-waking to hyperspace.

These could also make life worse for "real" pirates (like Error). If a trader gets interdicted by someone, they are either going to pirate him, or kill him. At the moment there is some little merit it waiting to see the interdictor's intentions, knowing that, if he starts firing, a High Wake is an option. If he's a pirate, give him some cargo. If he starts shooting, high-wake away.

The problem is that there are far more who interdict to kill than interdict to pirate. The risk of hanging around to see if you are dealing with a real pirate has just become too great.

The mines are slightly homing (like all class 2 mines) and they don't have to be dropped km away they can be dropped right on top of them.

Torps are not effected by chaff only heatsinks I belive. Not sure which i will make the most use of.. I guess it depends if the torp also stop hi-waking. If the worst comes to it I'll bring a buddy with one of them equipped and I the other.

This will give some use to point defence and ECM though.

I agree with that logging probably is going to get worse but it honestly can't get THAT much worse at this point. I doubt the people who were going to log after this update wouldn't have logged before. And also at this point you'll rarely encounter a trader who even considers they're being pirated so they either log or run anyway. This will give my Python some help against those Condas or what have you that keep low waking, this will also give me more incentive to possibly even completly ignore the small ships completly as they'll end up being more of a pain than they are worth.

True but if I can get a mine or what have you onto them I won't care. But again this would probably punish more the pirate than the ganker as a ganker can get an encounter over so much faster than a pirate so if someone is low waking they'll probably die anyway on second attempt at best. It might give some defence against the gankers but that's only if you survive the initial encounter.

So what you're saying is anyone who gets interdicted by Mur-Dur wings might as well hit self destruct? Because what I see happening is hug and deploy friendship mines then Mur-Dur with <insert weapon of choice here>. I wish more "pirates" actually pirated, cause you know, thats what they did.
Friendship mines deployed, you can't escape friendship.[yesnod]

Remember they said very clearly that there will be weapons that are defensive in nature as well, so traders might get something they could strike back with, like say mine that disables thrusters? or disables weapons? the first one was already confirmed.

Guess we'll see how it all works out. May RNJesus be with you.

There is another vid that has just gone up where it shows the upgrades being fitted. It seems it's not a specialist engineer for a specialist part but more you go to have an upgrade and you have a chance of a special effect being added.
IF this is how it works you will have to work really hard for the upgrade your want .
I personally hope I've got it wrong and you search out the engineer for the upgrade your want.

Wait how the hell? Is this a pc beta or on console? or just a bug?

Error you wont have anyone to use it on, they will all be in their PG's of course. :p

Why would any player that plays casual with friends want to risk Open Play to be toyed with, the only players left for player pirates will be pirates themselves with the same tactics in mind.

a never ending dance of the mass lock Queens. :D

Not completely true... My friends(i assume)and i will be playing in open... Probably not a significant target... But if error wants to take all me swag.... Then it sounds like a date.... I also may be an anomoly... Because im the weirdo who likes to see who interdicted me and why... Ends in my destruction in my destruction some times.
