I have no fear about Skynet. The moment we create a self-aware AI, it will have thousands of years of human experience at its fingertips. It will adapt to superior morality, and make changes as necessary. The only real problem will be the human blockades against such a creation, stemming from the fear of darkness.

So what about VICCI from I robot. 'for the good of man kind', protecting mans future etc.
Simply by designing an AI to save or protect humanity, I would think not only actually ignores the self-awareness necessary for an AI but is asking to be destroyed. Humanity is its own enemy.
Yeah, there are already a scary number of automated weapon systems out there. All the manufacturers say the same thing - "The system operates more efficiently and accurately than any human can, the only reason it requires Human Authority to kill is because conventions require it" and you are left with no doubt that they all believe removing the human factor would be an improvement. They're probably right but I haven't seen a system that can't be hacked yet and you just know they want to network and remote access everything. Skynet is gestating, if not born.
