Watched a Spire 'Give Birth' ??

just sat in my ship on the ground not too far from this spire & watched an Interceptor come out of that hole in the side and it came thru in like a liquid sac

Yeh, the Orthrus come out in fours, one from each side. Specifically Orthrus. These are very similar in function to the holes on the sides of the Titans which Glaives emerge from, or the main "portal" inside the maw on the Titan.

The animation seems to be different from the Titan's though, as from these they do seem to "burst" out in Orange goop, and go back in as posted above. So hard to tell if they're portals like on the Titan (since they don't have the "bursting" effect), or are just entering/exiting. Presumably if the spires are actually the top of a massive underground complex harvesting the planet, there's actually a subsurface superstructure carved out and the Orthrus are... i don't know, moving materials in and out?

Or; worse case, they're actually being manufactured inside the spire, in which case they're building new interceptors at a rate faster than we've been killing them to-date (noting the difference between a Cyclops through to a Hydra is, among other things, age and veterancy of the interceptor. So the fact it's just producing Orthrus (yet to see anything else besides scouts come out or in).

On a side note... how would this fare for a Orthrus nibbling grounds? With so many in one location coming and going as a matter of routine and hanging around for a bit, surely it must be better than just seeking them out in alerts?
