I feel a bit sorry for Paige and Stephen (who ftr seem lovely people). They're not in a position to share any more detail about future content, as a result get flak from rather salty comments they have to read but can only ignore... amongst some questions that they can't possibly answer such as "why is random suggestion/feature not implemented and when will it be", which they can't really respond to, all the while just a few handful of viewers actually bother to tune in (81 at time of writing).

On top of that they're coming across like it's the first time they play the game (autodocking a Sidey etc.) so it's not exactly riveting content all by itself either. Just getting the impression they don't really want to be there but have to make a brave face as it's their job, trying to talk about random stuff just to say anything at all.

Hope FD give them a bit more to 'play' with soonish(tm)...

Whether practical or not, it would be nice if they had something they could 'reveal' to sort of give them something to present and maybe time throughout the broadcast.
Though with the (re)introduction of betas, perhaps they could show off upcoming features/fixes to those who haven't played beta. Or perhaps a more up to date patched live version played on a local test machine.

Just little things that might help them seem a little less uncomfortable and might prompt more discussion with the stream itself.

Honestly, that was kind of what I expected, and maybe they'll still do that but I didn't get that impression from the steam (until I tuned out again shortly after I posted the above).

They (FD) seem to have dug themselves into this hole of content drought, where a bug fix patch is the most anticipated update in 6 months, while there being no other update for at least another 6 months (unless I'm mistaken). It is quite cringeworthy watching the streams as they're essentially just trying to kill time.

So what is there to talk about really... if you look at the Galnet news drought, caused by pretty much the same issues (apart from resurging Thargoids - but I presume this also got ignored as the AX CZs have already been nipped in the bud as of Saturday last) I don't know why they even bother having these streams. Who knows, maybe there are some people out there that enjoy watching them... frankly though if I want someone else play the game on Youtube as opposed to play myself, I prefer the usual content creators channels as at least I can usually learn something from those videos.

Not to be that guy but 81 is 16 handfuls of people. They stream across multiple platforms and the true figure as of just checking is 256 (51 handfuls) across Twitch/Mixer and Youtube.

Also this is the description on their YT stream....

That might explain why they're autodocking a Sidey.
Fair enough. I suppose if there's nothing else to do you just move to Colonia;) And plenty of future streams where they just jump/honk/FSS for hundreds of times.

Sorry... I feel like kicking someone who's already down.

Edit: I wonder if the CMDR reset was inspired by the recent thread on ARX lost while doing so:unsure:

They make it clear in every lunch stream that there will be no news. And every stream the first few minutes are full of people asking for news because ... there are lots of people on the internet. Those streams are intended to be just a bit of fun and banter.

Normally it settles down after a while and gets a bit friendlier.

Yeah switched on some music instead at the moment. But saw mentioned of Fleet Carrier things in the (pre) patch notes. Would have thought that could have at least been used to hype.

Even just share some concept art or ideas they're playing with, regardless of whether they make it into the final version or not. I realise they're trying to be careful stoking too much hype with the player base that they might not be able to deliver on, but they could just put a huge disclaimer on it, I mean some whiners will do so regardless but the rest of us would surely appreciate it.

It might be nice if it were used not as a "here we all are as players" but also a potential selling point for anyone interested in space sims.
Hell, even interlacing commander submitted pics and videos throughout the broadcast wouldn't go awry. Saving them for the end would be more of an anticlimactic thing.

Hm, not watched it. But if someone wants an input how to improve community PR have a look at Rebecca Ford at Digital Extremes dealing with Warframe. They not only provide entertaining, informative streams, the guys at the front are able to tackle most of the content solo when showing it off.

Hell, say what you will about Star Citizen, but from what I call of their weekly shows, they always had things and promises to have a song and dance about.
Just a plan, even with hints of tidbits.

To be fair, ED isn't a fast paced game, and watching someone play it isn't generally very exciting.

And the folks doing the livestreams aren't expert players, either. I guess they don't have any at Frontier.

That's no doubt part of the reason the streams are so boring. I love Elite but can't stand to watch those streams, never mind the stupid questions from the audience. Even without those, the streams are poorly organized and don't offer anything to see, really.

It's always like "watch the newbies be confused" instead of "watch how a good player does things."

Meh. I just assume that they are aimed at someone other than me :)

I think a small sneak peek per week would keep people interested. It could be shown during a live stream.

A bit harsh, but I get what you mean and I agree with the gist of it. These streams clearly aren't for us established players. We've seen it all too many times.

New face joins the team/streams -> learns the basics of the game -> leaves or gets featured in streams less often.

Well, it's one thing to show pretty pictures and tech babble. Another is showing off real gameplay. And Ford does look better at it, too.

True, but it's more about having something to look at and maybe attract players new and old alike.
Whether that's through showing what will/could come, illustrating what's being done or any other number of things. The basic thing being having a stream/presentation that at least looks like it has a plan and something to show.
Hosts might be nice and all but for instance, watching a grind from new commander to jumping to Colonia doesn't really sound too exciting (not to mention that it or similar things already exist on youtube).

It does seem like they would be better off to have one of the popular channels like down to earth astronomy or OA take over one of the official livestreams. In my opinion, at least DTEA is what I would consider a superuser and knows so much about the minutia of the game.

It would be nice if they had something ongoing for experienced players. The only live-streams that i watch are the ones right before actual updates that showcase new features.
