Proposal Discussion Watching the spinning orange ship...

Wouldn't it be nice if we could watch a different animation, perhaps something that was at least a bit suggestive of navigating a wormhole, while jumping? Maybe even randomize it a bit to relieve the boredom? Surely such a thing wouldn't be that difficult to implement, or take to many resources away from game development. Just a thought...

Yeah, as I understand the loading screen won't even happen in the full game. It will just happen seamlessly i.e. you will see yourself moving through space, with perhaps some distortion effects.

At present I wouldn't mind some kind of loading bar, just so I know the difference between a long load and a hang. I've had 3 or 4 minute loading times to get into Zelada Gov. space, I've just been about to" End task" when the station has popped up.

Yes there is nothing more irritating and frustrating that not to have the information on the progress of an operation

Watching the spinning orange ship...

If at least it was blue or red. Well, I'm not in the alpha, but I've always found the color Orange, bad enough, in the videos

:p

How about a black screen ;)

And suddenly, the revelation. The Griffin appears in all its splendor

:)

+1 Been thinking this for some time now along with a notification of what was loading ala ARMA or KSP. Then you have some idea of the loading progress, but also, if it hangs, where the problem is so you can feedback to FD.

Makes sence really :)

A progress bar is not really an insurmountable work and does not require much time

I have always hated being asked to do progress bars, you are assuming that the application knows what the "completed amount" is which is very difficult when its trying to put together network connections.

You know when the progress bar goes up a bit, then a bit more, then a bit more then at the last second jumps the whole way?

That developer doesn't know either and just wants the client to go away and leave him alone and there's your stupid progress bar!

Let's not forget that they'd need to take someone away from doing real gui to make the loading bar. And the loading sequence was possibly not written to report its progress, so now they need to rewrite it to yield that info. And of course now it is slower because the processing needed to put the progress bar up there...

I suggest instead of the spinning ship there's a really angry picture of David Braben. As the loading progresses he becomes less and less angry and the game loads a short moment after he's grinning like his game just got 10 a average rating on Metacritic.

Whoa Commander!

Now now ZeeWolf, settle down. Ease off the throttle there Buddy.. ;) Knowing whether or not the game is actually loading or has crashed seems quite sensible to me.
