Water as a mineable commodity on frozen waterworlds

Ice_pirate.jpg

and then these guys are coming.

We have entire rings of ice, wouldn't it be easier to just grab a few of those?
  • Frozen Liquid Bodies(Comets)
    • These work in a similar way to other bodies, but different equipment is required for extraction
    • Lower powered mining lasers are used extract chunks without melting them, these can then be collected in the same way as mineral bodies
    • Players can travel behind a comet and scoop their trails
That is what was written in the DDF, but the whole design there is extremely different from what we currently have.
So i think we will see it in the future, but maybe not as it was described in the DDF

I recall David saying that he didn't think ice mining would exist in ED, due to water being an abundant resource.

However, pockets of gas, or biological material, all locked inside an ice rock might prove to be valuable to both the commodity market and biologists. (provided there was a new mechanic in game that rewarded the exploration and discovery of organic life)
