water giant?

I've found about 80 since January ... at a rate of about 1:100 systems.
They're quite rare. I've only ever found a handful and its always a nice surprise when I do. I think I've found more water worlds than water giants.
I've seen few but they were bluish/greyish without cyclones.
They ping as water worlds
I haven't found any before the recent updates. Perhaps they are a new introduction ? Or have they always existed and I haven't noticed them? I seem to have found them at a similar rate to earth likes recently.

They've always been there AFAIK, they look similar to Jovian gas giants so you may have encountered one before & just not noticed the different description.
I only noticed them when I saw the Codex notification and was surprised I hadn't already seen all the gas giants in that sector - only it was a Water Giant

Yes it does say gas giant. I'll take a snapshot next time I find one and confirm what I see ....
