Water Giants

So i discovered my first Water Giant yesterday, never seen one before. Are they rare planet or have i just been unlucky and not seen one before now?

Congratulations on your find.

Water Giants are actually quite rare as far as I know. I've visited over 3000 systems and detail scanned over 25,000 objects (including all the gas giants I find) and I've found exactly 2 Water Giants so far.

I've found more Earth-like planets than this type, so consider yourself lucky you've come across at least one.

I found two right next to each other,,, first discovery also 419270_2016-02-07_00003.png419270_2016-02-07_00004.png

Very rare, just found my first this week as well. Not sure how much they're worth.. The site that I refer to doesn't list any value for them, though it does mention them elsewhere on the site.

I have only found 2 in the time I have been playing. Then again I sometimes don't scan all the giants, so I might have missed some.

They are relatively rare, yes. But not as rare as Helium-rich Gas Giants.
Unfortunately their selling value is very low (<2000CR)

It's a pity how low-value they are.

I mean, with their rarity (along with water worlds) I would expect them to be one of the more valuable finds, given that water would be kind of essential for expanding human colonisation around the galaxy - rocks and metal you can find anywhere, but water should be like gold

it would also make an awesome contribution to the game, massive, supertanker-sized cargo vessels transporting water to those stations and cities in systems where there isn't a lot of fresh water

Helium-Rich Gas Giants seem to occur in pockets of very young systems. Those pockets are certainly very hard to find, but once you find one GG/He you know you've in the right area and within 2-4 short jumps in the right direction you'll find more.

Here's a recent post about this:

EDIT: I just re-read that thread and see that you contributed to it, so just ignore me :D

:)

Since i posted in that thread i indeed found couple of such pockets - just like you described it. So i can confirm your observation.

I've only found one, but that was in a system where another CMDR has scanned the star and a couple of close planets, missing a water giant and a Y-dwarf with pristine metallic rings.

And i have just found my first Helium Rich Gas Giant too. this game keeps you on your toes

Actually make that 2 in the same system. Nope make that 3 in the same system
