Water(world), Water(world), everywhere...

Currently on my way to Colonia in my ExploraVulture (link to build on coriolis).

I'm making steady progress, not in a rush so keep heading off-route to explore different things that I find then returning to my route and continuing with my journey. However I think I'll be coming back to this region of the galaxy, everywhere I go there are Earthlike Worlds, Water Worlds and Ammonia Worlds. These are a few screenshots (montage) from recent systems I've passed through.

My paintwork is starting to suffer a bit as well, which is fine by me :)

Looks good. We may cross paths. I am out here as well doing the same thing. Haven't taken any screen shots yet though. I feel like everybody else gets to all these before me. Curious, what is your jump range? I rolled out way to heavy in a Python and I am jumping at 15LY per. Its insanely slow. I've already been to 900 systems and I am only 3/4ths of the way to Colonia.

According to the link he posted it's 28.05 unladen, which is ok.

15LY brings the words fork and eye to mind though.

Didn't see the link. I'll have a look now. I am flying while talking. Thanks for pointing it out.

True story on the fork. I am kicking myself. It was a dumb mistake and I am to far out to do anything about it. Getting to Colonia at this point is better than turning back. I keep telling myself there is a silver lining of my name in lights on a bunch of systems... but it doesn't taste as palatable as I want it to.

Two comments regarding your build (which is nice btw):

Why didn't you use a 5A fuel scoop and a 3D shield?
The reinforced alloy?

Hi Aereon,

15ly jumps... Ouch! You must be having a few problems of plotting a straight line route to Colonia with that limitation :(

I've got 28ly jumps and a large store of FSD Boost lv3 materials which has helped me get to some interesting (untagged) Neutron Star systems. Not even a third of the distance to Colonia yet, keep getting distracted! But that always seems to happen when I go exploring. Started the journey at the end of October, travelled 6200ly and visited 714 systems.

Hi Mechanist,

Why didn't you use a 5A fuel scoop and a 3D shield?

Not sure why the build on coriolis hasn't got it listed, I think there has been a slight corruption of build data when the latest version of coriolis.edcd.io went live.

The actual build has a 5A Fuel Scoop and a 4D Shield Generator which has been engineered for 'Enhanced, Low Power Shields (Grd-4). There wasn't a lot of difference in the weights of the modded 4D shield and a unmodded 3D shield and (to be honest) I couldn't be bothered with getting more materials to modify a 3D shield :)

The reinforced alloy?

A mistake on my part, I had planned on using the lightweight version... but forgot to buy it! Then it was too late to change as I was 1500ly in to the journey when I realised.

Yes I am. Its not the greatest journey ever. So I decided to write an RP about it which I am working on and will post later. I started about 5 days ago myself, and I have crossed through about 950 systems now. Today I plan to do another 200 if I can. I am not doing details scans yet. Just honking my way across. I plan to do the detailed scans on the way back. This is my first time as an explorer to be honest. I figure I will sell some of the data from the bubble area in Colonia and then take a longer flight back doing some detailed work and sell all that in the bubble if that makes sense. The only upside of the bad jump distance is the number of systems I get to visit. I might even keep it this bad for the way back then upgrade my drive in the bubble. Haven't decided. I keep getting jealous though of all the ELW and Ammonia rich you all keep finding. One nice thing is that with the low jump distance I have run into about 60% systems unexplored. Should have a few systems with my name in lights.

You need to scan a body to tag it and get your name in lights, honking won't do. It doesn't have to be a detailed scan (i.e. scanning with the detailed surface scanner installed) but you do need to target the body and wait for it to scan so that it no longer shows as 'Unexplored' in the left hand panel/HUD/sysmap if you want to tag it when you sell the data.

Thanks for the heads up. Ill start to do this. Appreciated.

Ha!
I made a similiar mistake once ... left on deep space trip without SRV which I had stored before for local tourist missions.
Imagine 5k LY out, landed, powered down engines, "Now let's get into the ... ???? NOOOOO ..." [hotas]

When handing in some mission data at Polo Harbor it told me "Congratulations Commander Aereon Theed you are the first to visit [system name I forget]." What does that mean? Is that name in lights possibly even though you said it wasn't before?

I got this "Water Worlds Everywhere" feeling recently when I made trip from Colonia to Sagittarius A/Great Annihilator and back. During that, nearly 30 000 LY trip, I found 91 water worlds and 13 earth-likes. It really felt that I jumped from water world to another. On average every 11th system had water world or earth-like.
