Ways to escape in a T9

I was enjoying my T9 knowing that using it would eventually lead to a frustrating death. I fly the Anaconda and Python all of the time, but I love the look and feel of the T9.

Tonight I submitted to a Python and followed the procedure I have done in every ship a thousand times........the Python Mass slows my Jump to basically not moving. I threw everything I had into staying alive...(this is just after leaving the station with new 16 million 7A shields.

He blew out my thrusters, jump drive and then ship.

Is logging off the only way to save a T9?

If you're masslocked, it is much quicker to jump to another system (15 seconds) than it is to get back into supercruise (5 seconds * 17 = 85 seconds).

Doesn't make sense to me either.

Sorry for the loss.

A 7A shield costs about $52 million. It's the 6A that costs $16 million (and may be a bit sub-optimal for the Type-9).

The Python does indeed mass lock a Type-9. The FSD charge being slowed only applies when you try to "Low Wake" or jump back into Super Cruise inside the same system.

The best way to escape such a situation is to "High Wake", done by targeting another system and jumping out of the current system. In this case, the mass lock does not slow the FSD charge time at all.

The 6A should keep you alive long enough to make a high wake jump, at least vs. many NPC. For Open play, I'd suggest a 7A shield.

EDIT: And I vote for never logging off. Even against an NPC.

I have a 7A shield and a 6B shield booster on my T9, but it's only now that I've engineered the shields and boosters that I feel safe to take it anywhere.

There used to be advice to the effect of carry a PD, a chaff launcher, and mines, but apparently mines go between useful and useless depending on the current patch, moon phase, and tidal activity, so I'm not sure if it applies right here right now.

Are NPC's affected by silent running and such? If so, it might be worth it to boost (AT the attacker, make them turn to face you) + heatsink + SR on + highwake. You'll take some heat damage from spooling your FSD with the vents closed, but it beats the rebuy on a T9.

I have a T7 and haven't died in it in months. I wonder if the same tactic would work in a T9? I find that flying directly away from your attacker as fast as possible and deploying mines, especially shock mines, leads to an effective exit. Has anyone tried this? I'd like to fly a T9 at some point and would love to know.

Unfortunately it was my 2.1 build that really helped, but now the pilots fly off center and the mines are useless unless you turn with him, which is hard in a T9.

I'm amazed that such a large ship gets Mass locked by anything. I can't afford 6+ million rebuys so I will log until I come up with a way to escape in a T9.

I have hundreds of hours in a T9 and ground all my money in it, (no I have never been to sothis), unfortunately it cant fight or run and if you fly one you will have to expect being killed about twice a week.
Even with the best shields an attacker can kill your motor right through them so I don't place any faith in them, I fit 6 X mine launches and give 'em an 11-mine cocktail with every button press. it works on everything except the big stuff.

I'm just gonna use this opportunity to point out once again that sacrificing the second largest module slot for the shield in the Type-9 still gets you killed. That's how rubbish the "base shield" balancing is for the Type-9.

My Type-9 will probably stay grounded until it gets a rebalance. Or maybe I should just go for the Cutter already and forget all about it.

I use my T9 for mining and its a nervous trip back to the station to drop off the goods.

If its a small ship, no problem. If its a big slow ship, no problem, my shields will usually hold up to escape.

If its a Python... its hell, since for completely unexplainable reasons, this much lighter ship which is also decently fast can mass lock you.

Two options: High wake... but if your shields drop, say goodbye to your thrusters... or, drop some cargo if they are a pirate (NPC pirates do accept cargo drops, although its hard to know how much they will accept). If its a murder NPC though. Nasty.

I had my T9 for approximately 14 minutes. Purchased it. Upgraded modules as much as I could. Took it out (with no cargo). On my first jump I was interdicted by something (possibly a Python). I submitted planning on jumping as soon as I could. I believe whatever interdicted me took approximately 6 seconds to rip through my shields and everything else. About $4.5M down the drain.

I sold my T9 and bought a Python instead. :(

High wake if mass locked as others have said.

Add shield and armour upgrades - really make surviving easy.

I haven't lost mine in 2.1 and I use an A5 shield.

Mass lock facktor is a        ing joke. Pure random value.
A Python masslocking a t9?
The 400t class 6 fsd Anaconda has a mlf of 23 the Beluga Liner at 1100t class 7 one of 18...

It can't get more arbitrary than this.

I've only just started flying a T9, so I don't have much experience to draw on, but I can say that my Ship Launched Fighter totally saved me from a Python interdiction last night.

I don't know what th Python was firing, but my shields were down and hull was down to 79% in seconds.

However, in those seconds, I managed to launch my fighter. The Python was then
distracted and stopped firing at me, and I was able to put enough distance between me and the Python that I couldn't see it on the scanner any more. I could have got away but system security turned up, and my crew member finished the Python off with their help. I claimed a decent bounty for that. My crew member seems quite decent, though is only a novice at the moment.

If you haven't tried SLFs yet, maybe give it a go. Not everyone's cup of tea I know, as they use a class 5 slot and take some profit, but I think they're fun and totally saved my bacon, so I like them a lot!

I'm going to see how I go in my mining T9 with crew and fighter, laser turrets, modded 6A shields and a coupla modded shield boosters.

Reading this thread it seems I will be going to the rebuy screen! Polishing a faeces!?

FD have said the T9 will be getting breathed on. Hope they toughen it up a bit.

I have a 5A shield on mine just for when the docking computer decides to boost it into the side of a station. Still never lost it to an npc. High wake every time.

High waking sounds like a waste of time. What if your target is several thousands os ls away from the jump point?
