We Alliance may not have faction specific ships...

...but we DO have palm trees in Alioth! So you can keep your drop-ships and your clippers!

Palm trees > faction ships.

Looks like Irkutsk Station to me...this is my home base! I Love Alioth!

Did you had some problems with the red landing lights in the beginning? Their color is similar to the background, I had problems with my first 5 landings or so...

Dude, half of empires stations look like this. I have also seen those in the Federation, not to mention the Sol system... So yeah, keep your palms, we got our own.

We got them in the Empire too. Nice try at being unique.

In all seriousness, the Alliance has got to get a bit of love. From what I here from the people who had the older Elites, the Alliance actually had a navy with unique ships (manufacutred by this company: http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/AAAI). I try to think brightly about Elite: Dangerous and not be 'oh I JUST hAte the DevELOPers BWA I quit', but honestly this is one incidence of pure laziness from the developers. The Alliance really should had been a faction like the others in the game.

You saying those palm trees aren't faction specific to the Alliance?! But what is exclusive to us then? :(

What's unique about the Alliance is that you're the only large faction without a single thing unique to you. As far as we know, you don't even have any capital ships, which begs the question: why hasn't the Federation just steamrolled Alioth?

Maybe we are very numerous, they might be scared we will clog up their giant guns with our side-winders.

They don't have a system permit and hence can not enter!

David Braben mentions in one of the dev diaries that the Empire ship in the capital ship battle video is not actually part of the Imperial navy, but is built by the Empire and sold, similar to how the major manufacturers export military hardware today. So I'd assume the Alliance has its share of capital ships even if it doesn't develop them itself.

I find it unlikely that Alliance intelligence would be able to obtain the exact blueprints of an Imperial or Federal capital ship. They could have some Federal capital ship through defecting Admirals, which I find plausible, but even if they did obtain the blueprints, they wouldn't be exact copies. The J-20 and J-31 are almost certainly F-35 inspired but aren't exact copies. The fact is that the Alliance needs their own manufacturers to have a sustainable supply and remain competitive.

Oh yeah, and most importantly, we haven't actually seen an Alliance capital ship yet. I guess they would have some in-lore, but they do not exist in-game at this point, effectively meaning that Alliance Commander don't experience the joy of fighting along side of a capital ship.
