We are all ships!

Just typed a long post about what I wanted to say about gamma, had one bad word in it and I would have had to retype the whole thing....thanks auto-moderations thingy

Anywho:

(TL: DR Version)

I want to see human NPC's on the stations, cause they are dead steel boxes!

Trading could use a nice setup like outfitting so I feel like I have a cargo bay and not a magic spreadsheet.

Combat needs voice chatter as well as the world, I want to hear pilots scream, taunt, threaten, blather about trading, anything aside from text!(who the hell types in combat answer: NO ONE!, ask the community we can send you thousands of voice blurbs!)

Chat: make it like radio frequency's so we can tune into "channels" have basic anyone channels "system"(so like Aulin chat) "galaxy"(the universe) and "empire/fed/rep etc.) and then let us make our own so we could have like 2231hz is for my squad and when you tune in to it, it's both voice and text so there is no having to fiddle with UI for ages.

Travel: I know why the way it is, but its just so disconnected that interdiction feels like a kid nagging you "hey, hey, hey you stop and play with me, you know it will be fun, OH COME ON PLEASE!!!!!" thanks to the way travel works it genuinely feels like as a trader you are avoiding the game just to look at spreadsheets and play an A-B minigame, unless you magically get interdicted and pulled back into the "Space combat mode".

I can't type all the things I had before, but that's the short of it, the game doesn't "Feel" rights, its good, and tons of fun, it just doesn't have the "Feel" of life, or activity.

Good points.
But brace yourself for the "you are playing it wrong"- and "it's all about your imagination"-factions.

I share your feel. Upon entering a system, station, nav beacon or whatever it is empty. It becomes crwoded after a few seconds, when the server is putting npcs in it. That feels so strange as if it's just a stage waiting for someone to show up and watch. (no i am not talking about the sensor delay)
Try it for yourself, dock at a station, 90% of the time it is your docking bay alone waiting for you to dock. Spend some time at the station and find that in the meantime rush hour started and it's lots of activity going on. Go to SC and turn around, you will find the before crowded station again as dead empty....this is just wrong.

It does give off that cold and desolate feel, but that can't be helped at least on the actual player side, but they could filler it with some more NPC's doing this or that.

That came up in the dev QA at the launch party - the dev's want to see that too:)

Short term, I'd much rather text than hearing one of the same 20 voice artists each time. And what language would they be in?

:)

I recently watched (from a safe distance), a AAA game title's multi language audio recording/archiving go badly wrong, just the collation is horrendously time consuming and expensive...

Well in solo, it is a grave yard, but in 'online open play' you can strike it lucky and enter some one elses island, this has npc's and who ever else is docked inside the station, makes the game feel more alive.
.
but for this to happen you take the risk of bad connections, so the choice is yours really, I suppose FD could chuck some npc's in the station when it loads in (before you enter it) this may impact on performance, and undoubtably cause some people to comment on the npc's coming out of the station and blocking the entrance.
.
damned if they do, damned if they don't im afraid, I like solo, but often pop into open for the populated feel.

Well I would say space would have no native language so I wouldn't mind having completely random voice overs, I would actually expect it, run into some russian space farer shouting at me for shooting him, a japanese trader complaining about prices, I think it would be interesting.

and I did suggest they get US the community to record them and ship them in, since it's space the quality may not have to be perfect, some ships have crappy radio's other do not, they just give us a naming convention so they know where to put em, and viola tons of audio, instead of a few basic ones.

Not a bad idea. Frontier give us a load of sentences and "we" all go off and record them. They then review, pick the ones that they like add a starting "static burst" to the start and end and they get rolled out.

IMO a bit of background noise, different microphones etc makes it more realistic there.

Have you seen Gravity? Where Sandra Bullock is talking to "Aningnaaq"? That kind of non-native language talk would be ace. Maybe with the text as well and an option to turn it off of course.

Agreed, I proposed the addition of npc portraits myself, just like we had in Frontier. I think something like that is needed to give the game a more human touch.

Completely agree. FD has shown us some very good looking detailed trading screen concepts that made trading come alive.

Again I agree and it has been asked for by many of us from the start.
It does not only have to be combat chatter, but comms chatter in general. And to make things easy for FD it could be largely unintelligible comms chatter you can hear in the background if you want to. For me this would add greatly to immersion.

I have no thoughts on this as I am not a chatter myself. I won't be using a mike at all.

I am not quite sure what you are asking for here and how this could be changed. Travel is travel and is part of the game. It is not supposed to be action filled from second to second. I enjoy it. But if you have good ideas to improve upon it and/or increase player involvement I am all for it.

There are too many interdictions currently I feel, but perhaps it depends on the area.
I also think it is weird that NPC interdictors now always try to kill you, even if you have no cargo and no bounty on your head. This has to be changed, unless FD envisions a universe filled with homicidal psychopaths.

I wish I had idea's for travel, but I don't, its one of those, well cause the decision to make everything full scale there is only so much to be done, it would have to be a trade off where super-cruise would be "removed" and basically it would become normal speed, and then the instances would be whole systems (fully rendered aka a hog on resources) and hyper-jump would be the only time you are pulled out of "combat mode" but that would come with its own massive mounds of hurtles, maybe the interdiction would then just become and engine killer, like drops your speeds to super slow...No idea, it just feels like we play 2 separate games atm.

FIS > WIS
Flying in Space is more important than Walking in Stations. There's a million gameplay functions and mechanics to add and improve before we need walking around in stations. It should be more than 2 years work before they can even start working on WIS. Please check the DDAs (links in my signature) so you can read what we really need more than a walking hallway simulator.

Fighter pilots engaged in combat do not chatter. And if there's one thing I don't need it's a thousand variations of screaming and insults. I can play Call of Duty with Voice Chat if I want that.
