We got bats, so are birds next? (My final wishlist)

After the release of the Twilight Pack I think most of us can conclude that Planet Zoo is certainly going to have another year of support, the logic behind is: Twilight Pack added relatively unrequested species, meaning they are reserving the currently most requested ones for later (Tassie and maned wolf namely) + bats are basically soft-confirmation for birds, which makes sense as the most selling pack is always on Christmas, and the most requested pack by a landslide is birds, so birds + christmas is basically the perfect formula for an absolute hit.

So taking that into account I decided to make my ultimate wishlist(s) for what I think is left of the game, this is basically a personal idea of what I think would be best for the game so when support stops we are left with a roster of animals that is most satisfying and doesn't make us go like "oh I am so sad they left x out and we will never have it because not even mods can make it". I went with a conservative approach and considered the packs for next year being 2 normal packs and 2 animal packs. However, I think the game already has a insane variety of building pieces and I don't really think there is much there left to be added, and I think most players will think the same, so if instead we got all animal packs that would be definitely a better scenario that would allow for a rather more "relaxed" set of picks (as you will observe my packs avoid animals that are highly requested but that also would be considered "clones", for example caracals, peccaries or ocelots).

Spring 2023 - Forest Animal Pack

This pack might be somewhat controversial but I think the variety of the final picks is incredibly satisfying, with or without ocelot. We need at least one duck. And no, the porcupine wouldn't be an outlier, they are a pretty wood (pun) representative for Mediterranean forests and African mountain woodlands :)

Summer 2023 - Islands Pack

I still find an islands pack kind of memey as literally the whole fandom based its existence on the presence of the Lord Howe Insect scrapped content in the files. It still has some potential for a good pack tho I guess. And chameleons are needed.

The pack I would look forward the most.

Winter 2023 - Boreal Pack

Originally this pack had the wolverine because it fits the theme just as well, but that would leave me with no swan, and the walrus alone is a total seller so :)

You may notice that my wishlists would leave something big out: marine animals. While I certainly agree the addition of marine species remains uncertain (not because of the game's capabilities), I am completely convinced that marine animals could be added in Planet Zoo as it currently is and that they would be incredibly welcomed by the community. But alas I have not considered them.

Lastly I cannot highlight enough how important I find the addition of two animal types specifically: waterfowl (swan/duck) and lagomorphs (rabbits). Please frontier. I know neither are that highly requested compared to other animals, but I find both to be invaluable additions. Rabbits are incredibly popular animals, would use the burrow mechanic and are an amazing pick for a cute and charismatic small mammal. Meanwhile waterfowl are perfect for decorative purposes, no zoo should be left out with a pond of swans and ducks!

So what do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts, altho I mostly made this to appease my mind (I am now free from constantly thinking about future packs). Leave any comments below!

Good list, I really like the ideas you have for each pack's overall theme. I agree that it would be great to get some waterfowl and lagomorphs in the game. I really liked most of your picks, although I would've really liked to see at least one more small cat species (Ocelot, Caracal, Bobcat or Serval would be the best choices in my opinion). I also would have liked to see one more deer species (like the Red Deer, Elk/Wapiti, Pere David's deer, Muntjac, etc.) and one more mountain-dwelling caprine (the Mountain Goat would be my pick, but any interesting high-elevation caprine would be fine). I also think it would be a mistake to not include the Fossa in the game.

I know people might say "all of those animals you want could be modded in". That is true, in theory, but unless Frontier is going to officially endorse modding, I don't think you can expect everyone in the community to be happy with that as the answer they receive. Just my two cents.

That being said, we still don't know for sure how much longer we'll be getting new Planet Zoo DLC, or whether we'll get any more anniversary animals, so how many more animals we'll get is quite hard to predict. There's also a possibility that Frontier decides to do a Planet Zoo 2 in the future, which could mean that they'd want to save things like Marine animals and animals with more complex mechanics for a future sequel. That's not to say that it's likely, it's just a possibility. They did something similar with JWE and JWE2, so I don't think we can rule it out entirely.

Also, I have one caveat when it comes to any future scenery packs for Planet Zoo. While I think we definitely have a good variety of building pieces now, I would still like to see more foliage options in the game. Therefore, I would be fine with continuing to get scenery packs, if they take the approach that they did with the Conservation Pack and give us a lot of new versatile foliage in each DLC. I think that foliage is one of the more underrated and underappreciated aspects of the game, and it is an important part of making any habitat look good. Give me some new flowers, trees, and shrubbery to use with each scenery pack, and I'd be fine with continuing to get scenery packs. If all we're going to get is more building pieces in the scenery packs and very little new foliage, then I'd prefer to see Frontier shift their focus to Animal Packs from now on.

Given how troublesome Steam's censorship can be, ❤️s anyone, I'd still* replace the Dik-Dik with a (Collared/Chacoan/White-Lipped) Peccary. And not only that. It would also solve the three-year problem of having a Peccaries folder, but not the animal itself.

*Later added word after reading Narwhaler's statement about clones.

I did think birds would be next but now I’m thinking the spring dlc would probably make more sense.
As I already said the aviary pack would be most profitable on christmas. Not sure why you think spring makes more sense (it doesn't, like, at all).

Same. I figure they’ve got to be coming, but if it’s a supersized pack we may need one more scenery pack first to balance it out
We got two scenery packs in a row, there is no need for balancing out with a third one :/

Btw thanks for all the support y'all, glad you like the lists ^_^ I know some people prefer ocelots, peccaries or that kind of stuff, but this is just my personal wishlist! I do believe those kind of animals stand a high chance of being added, I just wouldn't mind that much if we didn't get them in the end :)

@Narwhaler birds are commonly associated with spring especially in certain parts of the world where they migrate then return to breed. To me a aviary pack would be profitable at anytime of year as are pretty much all dlcs.
Oh I see now, that makes sense! However I do think that this time around the performance of the pack is more important than its seasonal association, simply look at the aquatic dlc, it had summer vibes and tropical species yet we got it on Christmas, I think birds are on a similar situation.

Overall it's a good list of themes and animals, for me potentially for the success of the game I hypothesized many other DLCs and therefore a longer development.
I still don't believe in a totally bird-centric DLC.
Surely you are right about the many building pieces, many are useless, many others should be there to facilitate the construction of habitats but there are not, but above all, many structures and functionalities are still missing: I think of playgrounds with rides for children, I think of gift shops where visitors can come inside and buy various gadgets, I think of a ticket office where guests queue, I think of many other educational interactive stations (which have only been introduced by the Conservation pack), many other enrichments for animals and consequent behaviors should be added, etc.

I do agree that playgrounds and more enrichment would be cool but those would rather fall inside update content rather than dlc content methinks

While I don't really find much use on any additional building themes because I'm not a builder, I'm sure some users will still find building sets exciting, but honestly we can all agree that what the community wants and what the game needs is more animals. We have thousands of pieces, we have got to a point where any new additions are basically just variations of already existing pieces (more stone walls, more wooden planks, I don't really find them that exciting).

Also on another note why is that we haven't got more variants for vanilla animals? No melanistic wolves, no golden tigers, no king cheetahs... We have got piebalds yet the animals that are most known for having piebalidsm (moose, alligator and camel) haven't got them... It's weird. While variants are not that important I think many users would enjoy retaking the game to obtain them.

Tremendo narval.

I like your packs but yeah I don't expect them doing sifaka nor lagomorphs unfortunately. Frontier gotta Frontier.
So Fossa instead of Sifaka, Wolverine goes to Boreal pack instead of hare and another monke to the Forest pack, call it mantled guereza, crested macaque, howler monkey or squirrel monkey.
Solid choices though.

If skunks got in I think lagomorphs definitely stand a chance.
