We need a docking queue

During rescure mission in open there were like 5 or more large ships with only 1 large pad available. It was fun because people were forming their own queue and requested docking according to it. Still it would be nice if docking request if denied would give us a number in queue and docking would be automatically granted for number one waiting when the pad frees up.

I agree that if there are no suitable empty pad for you, you should get place in a queue, and be notified when it is your turn to land. would be nice with info on the HUD with your current queue number.

I like the idea! It would also be handy if the ship already on the pad gets a notification for when a player enters the docking queue. That will let them know others are waiting for the pad.

Actually I thought this over and docking shouldn't be granted automaticaly. Just when the pad frees up number one gets a notification and like 20 seconds to request docking now. If he doesn't (might be AFK or so) he would be put out of queue and the next one would get his chance now.

A holding distance would be better, for eg hold at 5km. This combined with “No.3 for pad....” would add some life to it for sure.

Pad hoggers can be fixed by mode switching, but then you lose the instance and we all know the salt that could cause.

Years ago in Freelancer you sometimes got a "Pattern Full" message particularly at the planetary gates. Usually only for a few seconds but kind of added an ATC feel to the proceedings. Could get boring (or frustrating if tight for time on a mission) if it lasted longer than a minute or two though. Like waiting at a red signal in a train sim. And waiting, and waiting...!

I've asked for this a few times. also including open comms channel to all cmdrs within the 7.5k area

Queue activated when you hear busy High amounts of traffic near station. There is already a trigger for his message, use the same trigger to activate queue

I agree with the author, we need queue for DOCKING and UNDOCKING, when u docked inside station. Also it MUST include NPC ships. I'm tired of waiting until they all fly by, either crash into me at the exit.

So, how would the docking queue work when you are smuggling illegal goods, or passengers for that matter.

A queue is the perfect way to allow authorities to scan you, if you happen to be carrying illegal passengers, well you know how lethal station security can be with the included might of station weapons.

Got a rush job gonna pay you an extra mile and you only have a few seconds to dock? Sorry, station is busy, you have to wait in a queue.

Running out of oxygen due to a broken canopy? Landing at this station is the only way you can survive. Sorry, you have to wait for that type 10, an Annie, type 7, python, 10 sidewinders and a hauler. (Death sounds).

Of course you could always override the queue, but then you have the same system that we have now...
