We need a TANK!

Barben please make a TONK in to the game that we can fought battles in to planets for rare resources or when we can create a clans/divisions we can fight with others players for planets.

One word, well three really, "World of Tanks."

Why would you want to shoehorn tank battles into a space sim? Makes no sense. I have often said I don't have any objection to things that benefit other players, but FDEV making time to put a fully featured tank sim into the game is just....well, to much to ask. There are many games that have been around for years and do it far better, you want to play tanks for a while just log off ED and play one of them.

It would be EPIC.
You could literally shoehorn the original Battlezone gameplay in to ED, and it'd fit in almost perfectly.
(Not the story, although, the guardians ruins has some similarities)

That other space sim has just added tanks so even though I'm a tank nut I'd prefer ED to come up with something different. Maybe something like those Skynet Ground Hunter Killers tracked giant vehicles in Terminator?
 
No we don't, they got heavier SRV's in the works that will be ok, what we need are different versions with different weapons/equipment load out.

Unless I'm totally off base here.

No,I mean something like the giant tracked robots at the start of the terminator films that runs over all the human skulls which the player can drive - its design to me fits in space, as well as nuclear winter earth.

Dunno how I feel about tanks in ED.
Maybe the NPC can have them, and we need to destroy them from the air .. that could be cool.
Not sure I like the idea of players driving them around though.

Throw in some extra stuff. And you've got temporary mining bases to attack and defend!
 
I think I suggested something similar too- it would be epic!

What you need is to duplicate what you see in space a bit with POIs on the surface- so you can have Distress Calls, Weapons fired sort of stuff so you know whats about.

From my design armchair I would have thought a base defence would be easyish to do with waves of skimmers, and that you have allied turrets acting like greens in CZ.
 
SRVs are armed. As with my previous point, I don't think FDev should take the CIG route & literally have 'tanks' but you can have something that looks like an evolution of an SRV that is more combat focused and is effectively a space 'tank.' :)

Yes I am all for SRV variations, an SRV with a mining rig so you can mine minerals, heavily armed for invading fortified bases, multiple player SRV's, all good stuff, but from what I can tell the OP wants to have tank wars on planets, just not necessary and a distraction from the core of the game, which is a space trading and adventure sim. We haven't even got that properly implemented yet. Once FDEV run out of things to do, sure, but that's not going to happen for a while.
