I don't think Frontier even support the Pimax now do they? I think they've literally stripped back official support to the original headsets which doesn't cover Quest and G2 either
I think they only ever
officially supported VR using Oculus (could be wrong), however other headsets have always been usable I think. I played in flatscreen initially, and then got my first HMD which was the Rift (I didn't play any games in VR before ED, and now play it and MSFS2020 in VR), and I played using that on my version of the game bought direct from FD, not from the Oculus store. Since then I got a G2 and now use SteamVR to play the game in VR using the same version of the game purchased direct from FD, not from Steam.
Unfortunately for us who play in VR it is (IMO obviously) very unlikely that there will be any significant work done on VR support. They lost interest in VR a long time ago and that was first clearly shown when they released the FSS which didn't even support VR (the devs were asked about it in a pre-release livestream and they basically just said 'Uh, we don't know if it'll work in VR') and they had to scramble to get it to work and there are still issues with it in VR I think such as missing orbit lines (although those issues have never bothered me and I've been Ok using the FSS in VR).
I think we need to accept that it's highly unlikely any on foot stuff will have any VR support and while I sympathize with those asking for even limited controller support I just cannot see it happening, we're in the letterbox forever on foot. Maybe they'll fix VR issues in the cockpit and the FSS, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Yes, plenty of people do play in VR and they tend to be very passionate about ED because frankly the game is stunning in VR, but FD believe from the very top down that VR is niche, in fact David Braben is downright disapproving of VR, thinks it's antisocial as well as a very niche technology.
So, I just make the most of being still being able to fly my spaceships from time to time in VR. Don't mean to be a negative nancy, but hoping for something that I recognize is extremely unlikely to happen just leads to dashed hopes. I got the LEP way back when, so of course I kind of regret that as I can't see many of the updates going forward being of great interest to me (not remotely interested in FPS pew pew), but on the flip side, if something fun comes out that I can do in my spaceships and in VR then I've at least already got it.
