We need an alternate way to get commodities for upgrades

I think the Engineers upgrade system has a flaw and it's that a lot of blueprints need special commodities that can be aquired only by completing certain missions that give them as reward. Now materials aren't really a problem, we mostly know how we can obtain which material. But missions are completely random with their rewards. For example, I can't find "modular terminals" at all, no matter how many missions I check out. I think there should be an alternate way to get them. Searching for materials are random enough, for example you know what kind of planet you have to go but there's no guarantee you'll find that exact material. We don't need even more clueless searching for commodities as well. I think commodities should be sold at spaceports. Not every spaceport but some. Because mission rewards are completely random and we have absolutely no clue as to where to look for a given commodity. This makes the grind uselessly long and random.

The commodity description on the Buy/Sell station menu tells you where you can go to buy it. Not directly, as in the name of the system, but gives you a rough location and clues to find the station that sells it in that area. That applies to the rarer items but some of the commodities are actually fairly common at certain types of station i.e. industrial, High-tech, etc.

Not completely random. Specific factions are going to provide specific commodities and are going to reward specific commodities over others and not going to offer other commodities at all. So just put those handy dandy book marks to use and issue solved. As far as clueless searching, they indeed give clues about materials.

If there was a stack of "modular terminals" sitting around every station, the Engineer would just get it themselves.

"Modular terminals are ubiquitous items that provide a hardware display of data in a visual and audio format. While they can be sold at markets for a minimal price, these are more often used by engineers for their upgrades."

I don't see any clues here.

Also, hit the components tab and sort by type.

You will see how to get each commodity that engineers are looking for. http://inara.cz/galaxy-components

"Mission reward" for commodities. That's why I say it's random. There's no clue about what missions or where.

I agree that the way the missions offer needed materials is not good, at least if it is really random.

Perhaps if we knew what other factors played into their appearance. For example, Modular Terminals might only be found from High Tech Democracies with more than 1 Billion people and an earth-like.

I agree. Or something like "this commodity is common in the Empire". Or "XYZ minor faction usually rewards this". Right now there's absolutely no guide as to where to get these commodities. It took enough time to collect the materials.

Well lack of storage is completely farcical. I can't venture into a anarchy nav point to get some trader mats without been attacked and the engineers must have got their qualifications in a lucky bag as a grade 4 FSD mod just got me an extra 5lys over the default in my anaconda.
Now I can take some chance but its looking like the RNG is stacked against the player in order to waste time and resources and if that is the case it's a bit spiteful to its loyal players. The beta was not as bad as this, Frontier really want to get the finger out and sort this or the engineers can kiss it goodbye, I'll leave them until they sort it.
