We need an eye patch

Pirates didn't wear eye patches because they lost an eye. I didn't find out about why they wore eye patches until sometime last year. Still cool looking though and has become a trademark look for pirates.

A very long time ago I used to shoot competitively (small bore). I am right-handed but shot left-handed as I can't just close my left eye. However when they changed the competition rifle to one which ejected on the RHS I had to start shooting right-handed with an eye-patch on the left.

Wasn't it something to do with going from above to below decks during a boarding, and having the patch so they could adjust to the dim light more effectively by swapping it to the other eye? I vaguely remember looking this up myself a while ago.

Parrot bobblehead yes please.

As long as it's a cockatoo.

Yep, that was the reason.
