We need compelling reasons to build systems other than: this system supports colonization efforts

Other than personal desire to do so, colonization rules do not make a compelling case for any type of system beyond those intended to support further colonization. We need good reasons to build a tourism systems or defense systems and their really isn't any motivation to do so. This is making colonization system design monotonous already and without reason to do otherwise, it will stay this way.

One possible angle would be re-introduction of the Thargoid attacks that favor attacking poorly defensed regions of space. If the ratio of defense builds in an area falls below a threshold the chance of attacks increases and increases faster and faster the more defense has been neglected.

This is just a rough idea not thought out nor intended to be an actual game inclusion but rather the types of things that could be done to diversify colonization.

there is an underlying reason behind colonization i'm sure. Already in-game it is said it is a response to the thargoid attacks. Pretty sure the colonies as going to be significant in whatever they have lined up next in terms of the thargoids. Pretty sure its not a coincident a large section of space close to the bubble is off limits.

we're still in the beta.

The idea of regionally significance is appealing to me more and more as I think about it. You built 5 systems and not a single one has a Bar, you lose population from all those systems as people move to systems where their social needs are being met. Your five systems have no relays, so your population cannot communicate 'back home to the bubble' where most of your family lives and so they are more likely to cause an uprising of discontent.

This makes our population seem more human and our regional builds have to account for this to some extent.
