Engineers we need more material storage! 600 is not enough!

since two days i dont know what to do as I Keep constantly thorwing Things away that i could actually use at some Point....

We either need way way more than 600 or a way to store that stuff in spacestations!

True, around 1000 sounds reasonable. While regular gameplay I am trying to collect at least 20 of each material/data discarding extra stuff, I am in mining for CG right now and I need to discard materials every 5 min because it fills up very quickly. A filter system for collector drones/scan can be a solution to avoid such inconvenience, but I doubt that they will do it.:|

I agree fully. I'm fairly certain I've jetisoned over 600 units of materials.....

... and that's all I've done. Those 92 class 1 upgrades are all spent on a 2 unit (1x Nickel, 1x Vanadium) Class 1 Sturdy Mount in an attempt to get the special effects I want. The others are specific components I want for other stuff.

I've resorted to ONLY collecting rare materials and have jetisoned almost everything "Common" that I'm carrying.

You can also try the tier 1 Light Mount modification (1x Galvanised Alloy, 2x Phosphorous) so you can roll more on the tables.

The reasoning I heard about limits pre 2.1 was, 'we don't need more space, because your only short on space, because your not using the materials.'

This was some what true. My self, in 2.0 had no problems with materials space, as I was using them up as fast (jump boots). There was also the factor of reducing ammo reloads (which I guess is not a factor now, magical, because you can use your 600 space on ammo mats only).

I think its clear that FD have an anti hording philosophy, as it has been mentioned in a few live streams and that's okay if they want to go down that route but, it seems they haven't quite hit the balance yet (kinda as there are some strange factors at play).

Personally I find the limit silly as it adds nothing to the game apart from time (oh no, time skins). And I think FDs anti hording ideas was more about commodities, so people could not just stock up and blast through missions. Maybe they have these limits to stop that happening to any new content that may come.

Now here is why its hard to balance the limits at this point. If like me, you may be trying to work on a few upgrades at once, or even collecting enough materials to unlock ranks. All good stuff, but once you have your upgrades and unlocks, and start working on just trying to get that extra few percent on a rank 5, The space issue will seem less problematic.

just to be clear, i'm not in favour of the limits.

Yep, I've filled up my 200 data slots without even trying. Indeed when trying to complete a mission I thought I'd found a bug in that it wouldn't let me complete it. Unbeknownst to me, off the bottom of the mission information (if I scrolled down) was the fact I would get a single data item, along with an error message I had no room - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=260877

I really don't want to have to micro-manage all this stuff... If I have 2, 20, or 2000 of a particular item, what does it matter?

For those asking to double the or tripple the limits, I've filled up my space without even trying in just this short amount of time since 2.1's release... All that will happen if we double/trippled limits is hit the same issue again later...

Why not limit any one item to 99? Or 199 to be sure? But apart from that, you can store as much as you like? No micro management required! (ie: Anything collected above this maximum limit it simply discarded)

At the moment, if mining, you are FORCED to micro manage. Not a choice, has to be done.

You cant select if you gain materials or not when mining, and if you become full, limpets stop dropping of everything until you clear material space.
So even if you have cargo space, and only mining for cargo/ore, you have to keep and eye on materials. This problem really does drive me crazy. ever 5 minuets, scrolling through the list and dropping 20 or so items.

i hope they at-least as this suggestion: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=258869

If they allow you to store materials at a station they need to both make them able to pirate and lose what is on your ship at destruction. This way you have to go back and store it. Also storage needs to cost significant credits to use, have limits to storage, and not be accessible from other stations. You should be able to have a storage at as many stations as you want to pay for

I don't understand the arbitrary limit, from a coding point of view. I mean, reality is bypassed by having the materials follow you, even when your ship is destroyed, so ignoring that, I assume we all have some data held for us on the different materials and amounts we have. If the amount is held as a number, even a small signed integer would give us 32,000ish of EACH material which can be 'held' for a cmdr.

I agree that we need more storage, but it shouldn't all be readily available. I would be happy with the old 300 storage back, as long as I can store more at a designated station or facility. Or something similar.

I'd rather there not be a total storage limit (hold 600 period of any mix of items), but rather limit per material/data/item. So you can always get all materials (to their personal limit), and not have to juggle the 600 'slots' across everything and around every time you try to scoop up something new.

And yes, even using a 1 byte integer would result in enough 'storage per item' at very small data needs. They already use at least that to show how many of each item you have. So this global pool of 600 is just annoying as crap with a system that is already annoying as crap when dealing with inventory and cargo.
