We Need More!

I've been ED almost religiously for a month now. With the addition of core mining and more in depth systems added I have truly enjoyed my return to the game. With that being said, I am returning from my second deep space exploration trek and I find myself wondering why I left the bubble to begin with. The idea was to finally get my name on some systems, maybe map out an earth-like world, see some cool sites. After all, I played Eve for nearly a decade for no other reason the path of exploration. Scanning down locations, flying in, playing those mini games of unlocking secured crates with the possibility of finding alien tech or super valuable loot that I could turn into a fortune. Or scanning down combat sites, destroying leagues of npc pirates and structures, to chase down that ultimate prize. But in ED that deep space is just empty and I find no reason to go there, or even to return to any lost planet I've mapped. No special material or mineral to be found there and no where else. No special commodity that makes it valuable or worth the trip. I would just love to see more content out there, more reason to explore the beyond! And a few more ships to do it in wouldn't hurt. 😉

Not quite true.
Next Major update is 2020.
Still time and hopefully room for a ship or two.
Holding out for the Moray Starboat. :geek:

You forgot the words "Paint jobs".
It's ship paint jobs or two that's coming.

Ships were part of a big update, there is only some QoL fluff coming. So if you are holding your breath for a new ship, then you're saving oxygen until 2020. :D

But OP is right - 400 billion star systems and really just big voids. Yes I know it's big etc etc, still, what about ruins of some ancient civilisation to uncover?
One that didn't have a run-in with the Thargoids.
Or one that didn't make it to space?

Doesn't need to be on our door steps, but not near beagle point either.

I definitely agree with OP. Exploration got a big update for exploration mechanics and some content, but the content side leaves a lot to be desired. I hope 2020 brings new candy. I doubt exploration will be touched before that.

I think it comes down to the matter of scale and perspective to the immense modeled scope of ED. As already reported, all the exploration done in ED's galaxy is still a minuscule fraction of a percentage. Even if there were a thousand systems out there with something of unique content, the odds of finding it are still less than winning the powerball in several lifetimes. Even if there were special signals generated from a radius of 50Ly from a system with special content, the odds are likely someone else will happen upon it than yourself even if one could explore 24/7 in ED. That said, the codex for each cmdr logs in personal and rerpoted "records" of stellar objects discovered such as the largest, coldest, and other properties of a characteristic or another and it updates if you find something that exceeds those previous records. While there could always be more assets and content added in general, the coming 2020 update is probably part of FD's response to "we need more stuff" and future improvement of the game that they are working on.

Bearing in mind we can only visit airless rocks... Reaching space would have to be a prerequisite.
there is of course Raxxla if you can find it, perhaps some civiliszation that nuked itself maybe. But I think we're going to struggle with a planet bound species.

I'm not saying I need more signs of alien life, though it would be cool, but at the very least some unique reason to return to the void. Some type of planetary scientific mini game etc. Or randomly generated signals that lead to special alien (guardian?) Wrecks with unique loot. (More paintjobs?) Or be able hack randomly generated ancient data cubes for unique data that you can't get anywhere else? Some kind of extra engaging mini game of some sort that gives players a reason to go explore for more than just photo ops.

Not good to lie...

Oh, and for the love of Raxxla, please give us some sort on station 'banking' storage system! Or inventory that is independent of the ship, so I don't have to sell off my limpets, and forget to rebuy them when I switch ships!

Instead you could move them to your bank then forget to withdrawal them when you switch ships!

Planetary scientific mini-game like the Ram Tah missions? Wrecks like the Thargoid wrecks and surface structures with loot used to unlock gear? Data hacks like ancient Thargoid beacons that drop data used to acquire blueprints for fighters? All of that exists, do you mean you just want more of it to potentially occur anywhere on an RNG basis?

Yep. What you describe sounds attractive to me. I think FDev should have a look at how games like Eve handle looting systems. There is a lot of good stuff there to learn from. There should be special, extra valuable, loot only to be found in deep space.

Once/if/when we get access to atmospheric planets I hope there will also be much more to see and find. I hope they will add new scientific gameplay: sampling and scanning lifeforms, analyzing stuff in a scientific laboratory module, etc. etc.
But they could also add some rare stuff in space itself, like huge ancient mysterious monoliths floating in space with rare and valuable loot on them, or stuff down on planets we currently have access to.
Looting is addictive. It is for me at least. A cool, good looting system will stimulate game play.

A: what I'm getting at really, is the ability to dock my mining rig half full of ore, switch to my pew pew machine (aka the WinneBANGo) and then jump back without flying all the way back out to the ring and then facepalm over no limpets in the hold.

B: yes to all of that, only on a much broader scale. The entire game shouldn't be played in less than 1% of the game environment IMO. My point is, I'm begging for a reason to fly 500+ jumps into the unknown for more than a photo op and then wondering why I went the whole trip back.

ie; hire warehouse space on a station.
It's not a new idea and I rather get the impression that Frontier are deliberately avoiding it for some reason.

They are, probably because they don't trust us to use warehouses full of expensive goods to manipulate the markets, if that is the case I don't blame them I wouldn't trust us either.
