we need two entrances

really with smaller ships it is ok.
but if you have a clipper or bigger already then you are getting problems to enter big stations. not because of the entrance because there is only one. and it is too small for 2 ships

That's what she said...

sorry, couldn't resist

A mooring structure outside of some stations might be doable, I'd think...but given the design theme that better ships come with greater skill requirement in some regard, I find this change doubtful to occur.

well its not the skill. there is no order. npc dont wait for you. and if you are already in the entrance and another npc is comming then it can get very dangerous.
npc dont care if they ram you or not

Treat it like you are about to go over the top of a WW1 trench, creep up to the edge, staying in cover, peek over, choose your moment, over the top and run like crazy! Manoeuvre thrusters are your friend....

ooh i sooo want to see a station (station! not outpost) with pads outside! like a huge sphere (landing skill required, as there should be no rotational correction : )
and yes, this game needs a lot more station designs (and ships too).

sometimes when i see an npc eagle going slowly thru the gate i just ram it :)

Yup - fantastic idea..........

We have this currently on car parks - one called entrance and the other called exit! :) But in the year 3300 they seemed to have lost their way.:D

Also be handy in those bloody little station where you get the constant "Docking request denied" message is queueing system?? Airport of today have these too. Hopefully things like these will get implemented in their next updates. MAke tehe game less tedious than it already is.

Whew - now back to the game cos I have a delivery contraction to make and the "docking request denied" lady wont budge for the last 30mins!!!!

Regarding NPC i can squeeze my T7 past every ship besides a T9. So the entrance is OK. Three ships have room in the slot (besides T9).

I think the entrance is fine, there is plenty of room. And yes, I have tried T9 and Anaconda earlier in beta, not changed after that, I think.

Probably not going to happen, although outside pads might eventually show up, if ever get very large flyable ships. Some reasons I've heard against it:

* Tradition... it's how the original Elite stations worked.

* Players will want to race full speed through the station and out the back end, endangering normal traffic.

* Twice the number of AI patrols needed, to keep smugglers from entering the Exit side.

* It's hard enough for new players to find out where a single entrance is on some of the station types, without confusing them with an exit that looks similar.

* The current design may not be logical (no ATC pattern holds in the future, really?), but it offers a challenge for getting into the station safely. Especially for smugglers, who have to either sneak in or zoom in while avoiding traffic going both ways.

Between all of those, I'll bet it's mainly the first one. It's how it was in original Elite, so it's how it is here.

Well it's as it was in Elite, one entrance/exit on a Coriolis. There was no such thing as traffic in that game though.

I fear the current station designs make this not possible without a huge amount of work.

In solo mode it don't seems to be a problem. Through in open play (and we don't know yet, how many people we see in future) this might be a headache. You yourself might not make a mistake when entering, but an accident can happen to you regardless (newcomers, drunk players etc :D).. If your cargo contains something very valuable..
I would suggest a couple of options..

A backdoor that leads to the black market would be nice too.

Or use the exit as an entrance when smuggling.

There also wern't any NPC ships coming through the letter box.

There are the green light and red lights were in beta we the players agreed to exit or enter on the green light side. i think NPC's should do the same

Set up Vessel Traffic Service (VTS)

Perhaps the developers could look at a busy shipping harbour - such as Felixstowe. They have the same problem getting large vessels in andout of a narrow entrance. The VTS will coordinate with traffic reports and instructions. Large vessels are given priority with fines for coming too close to them.
I like the idea of a red side and a green side.

So we should be ready to launch and ask to hold off while the courier docks :( The same service will arrange queuing for docks.

I am suprised that there is no docking fees. Some stations may waive charges because they need the traffic (or even pay you to come). Others will charge.

If you have a traffic management system, you might as well just make all docking automatic as the effect would be jarringly similar. I do however enforce that all hubs and habitats be given an entrance and an exit and that all smaller stations be given a large docking pad/docking chute/have the ships park and use shuttles/whatever for the larger ships (and when there is more than usual traffic.)
