We should be able to customize the User Interface of the ship to a different colors?

I am honestly sick of looking at orange all the time. It will be great if the developers take this consideration into development. I am 67% sure that there are more people who want a possibility to change the colors, and maybe the positions of the UI.

Sincerely: A guy who likes colors, but despises orange.

Um, you can change the HUD colours, at least. A forum search will reveal all...

Orange is generally used as it is less straining on the eyes in low-light, and shows-up well against dark/black colours.

I have searched everywhere in the setting to so if it was possible to change anything. I have had other problems besides that. When there are multiple things out my window and they are all orange. It would just help me more if I could color code my interface.

There's currently at least one thread that details how to do it, and even has screenies showing what some of the color combos are. FD has also mentioned that they're looking at being able to have us change the colors of HUD elements at some point in the future, but there's no solid ETA on when or even if it will happen.

obviously you haven't, a very simple Google search yields loads of results for HUD Colour changes!

Blue seems to be a very popular alternative, but personally I find the default orange the easiest to read.

Still, it wouldn't kill the devs to offer some alternatives or colour sliders. It would be simplicity itself to put this in the config page.

I wouldn't mind being able to alter individual sections of the HUD, without having it totally banjax everything in the radar like the current method does.

Being able to change the default radar grid to green, for example, without losing the current target colors. I also wouldn't mind being able to change the other elements to different colors (blue panels for the Clipper!) separately from one another.

If they really want to get creative, they could even have a system similar to some MMORPGs (yes, I know ED isn't an RPG, that's not what I'm getting at) and have a UI menu that would allow folks to customize the HUD for each ship, if they want to.

It should be changeable through the UI, changing the major colors should not screw up the minor colors (scanner colors, the wanted sign and so on), and it should be changed individually for each ship.

I like the orange a lot. But I am 100% for being able to easily change to more harmonious colour schemes. Colour-blind people, for instance, must be peeved.

I use the HUD file hack to change my theme colour, but agree that an in-game solution would be ideal, because finding a good balance to make sure warning and information message/indicator colours don't get messed up isn't easy.

They said it's on their list. Low down the list but it's there.

I find the current way to alter HUD colors sorely lacking, for example how you can't have scanner blips in the default colors when you change anything. I would rather we could set up each individual element as we wish, like this:

  • You can create and edit HUD color profiles, and save them by name.
  • These profiles are saved to your online account, i.e. you don't have to set them up again when you play from a different computer.
  • You can assign profiles to ships, so that for example your Cobra has a red HUD and your Clipper a blue one.
  • You can tag one profile as your global default, it will apply to anything without its own assigned profile.
  • Each profile allows you do the following things for each individual HUD element:
    • Assign a custom color (RBG).
    • Adjust the transparency (0%-100%).
    • Adjust the brightness (0%-200%)
    • Reset to default settings.
    • Enable/Disable this particular override. If you disable it, than this specific HUD element will be shown how it would be if you had no profile assigned to this ship, i.e. either your custom global profile, or the default color (doing so in the global profile would always yield the default color).
    • Copy this element's settings, or paste previously copied settings (to allow giving many elements the same settings easily).
  • HUD elements are broken down to as small a detail as feasible. Examples:
    • Targetting reticule:
      • Missile lock
      • The outling ring
      • Mouse widget
      • Fixed weapons reticule
      • Gimbal reticule
      • etc.
    • Target hologram:
      • Ship model
      • Shield color
      • Hull integrity bar
      • etc.
    • Your ship's hologram:
      • Ship model
      • Shield color
      • Hull integrity bar
      • etc.
    • Scanner:
      • Background and outlines
      • Neutral targets
      • Friendly targets
      • Enemy targets
      • Minor targets (i.e. cargo canisters)
      • Planets
      • Stars
      • etc.

As a bonus, the game could now come with a pre-installed "colorblind" profile.

I am sick of looking at the black of space, can we change it to pink?

Yes, because space is pink not black. The best scientist and philosopher in the galaxy. Can I buy your star explorations?

My request is not a joke. Go spread your shenanigans somewhere else.

I would like to change the color of my lazerz from red to purple personally. I know I can switch from the default pulse lasers to plasma, but I can't hit the broad side of an anaconda without gympballs (I wish that was sarcasm...its not).
This has been requested since the original Elite.

Chillax, dude. Your request has come up a number of times. There is a hack for changing HUD colours to some extent, with even some small applications written to tell you what values to punch in the config file to get a desired colour. Meanwhile Frontier has been changing how the HUD is rendered so you get accurately coloured light reflections on the dash regardless of the HUD colour. This is one step towards customisable HUD colours in the graphic settings in the future.
.
Basically, it is coming. Meanwhile there is a simple hack.

Am I angry? I'm just dissatisfied that someone had to make a silly comment like that which has nothing to do with the game or the games realism.
