We were promised atmospheric planetary landings

They said it's coming and is the goal along with ship/on foot exploration in 2012, but will take a while, they want to populate planets and gas giants with clouds, trees etc, but don't want them looking the same. Their artists will have to come up with so many different ideas for landscapes. Hopefully it won't take forever though, would be lovely to see clouds or even blue sky on some worlds soon. Apparently they have teams working on all these at the moment, but also have to have a team keeping the core game full of stuff to do to keep the players playing.

When a sales person trying to sell over a £100 add on to a piece of software says buy this and know you are covered for the life of elite , then yep i take that pretty seriously... At the very least if "elite deadly" came out i would expect a copy of the game complete with lifetime pass

<s>The snakeoil... pardon... marketing person was talking about Elite: Dangerous. It's your fault you extrapolated that to "Elite" :p And E:Dy will be different beast with another LEPs*</s>
In all fairness, time will tell. I got the feeling we're 2 years behind schedule actually and season 3 was meant to be launched just after S2, but all sorts of things went bad.

From the other side, I wonder just how much die-hard fans Elite has, and if that fanbase could sustain E: Dangerous, or will they burn it and try to sell us E: Deadly before the market is again flooded with space games. X: Rebirth VR edition is already out and I will be trying it this weekend for example. There are others coming in the pipeline, so watch the space ;-) If Elite won't be around, well... Braben promised (does this have any value?) that when they turn off the servers they will release source code in some form. Then we will probably get the singleplayer E: D without the schizophrenic limitations of "MMO-non-MMO" and other bogus design decisions.

* fun fact: in Polish "lep" means the sticky paper used to catch flies ("lep na muchy"). I chuckle everytime I see that acronym :D

Its a matter of fact that up to now ALL poeple which i did introduce this game so far, their first question war if its possible to land on earth and they did EXPECT that i show them. Then i saw their disappointment in their faces when i had to tell them that this is not possible.

I really cant follow that "argument" that this would be too hard to achieve. sure, a class-m planet is more complicated to render as a Planet without atmosphere (hmm, why exactly we cant land on the moon?!), but on the other hand, there are plenty of games who offer open worlds. and dont tell us something about gravity. the gravity on space station isnt correct too. in theory if you fly on the side of the rotating station you should crash because the ships are no planes. ;) and yes in the stations is athmosphere since you can breath there when flying into one. so since FD already violated some majow physics rules, why not violating them a lil bit to enable landing on athmosphere planets too? like the mars?

however, there are lots of way to implement "walking on earth" and landing on earth and since the got a big finance injection from china and the staff, i dont see why they cannot offer it. Dont forget that we already talked about this a couple of years ago.
