I think somewhere in the beta threads it was mentioned that engine and weapon colours will become a thing in the liveries tab like paint jobs. These new options mean you'll be able to switch off seeing other people's different engine and weapon colours if you so wish.

That would be lovely actually. Nobody should be punished for somebodies choice of pink lasers and engine exhaust
