Weapon choices for clipper

I'm looking for a new weapon set up for my imperial clipper right now I am using 4 medium gemballed multicannons and it works because it's cheap on power and ammo costs but now I have about 1.5 mil saved up for new weapons and I'm asking what should I get.

C3 Plasma accelerator can be fun for sniping powerplants and can OHK with a well placed shot. Though I'm currently running 3 gimballed pulse lasers and 1 C3 fixed beam laser - takes down most targets pretty quickly and gives me an option against chaff spam.

Generally for the clipper, you want c3 lasers, and c2 multicannons. If you're adventurous, you could do 1 fixed c3 beam, and a c3 cannon. That's a pretty good loadout imo. The outer hardpoints( the 2 c3s) are terrible for weapons, you could fit an anaconda between them. You're basically forced to use at least 1 gimbal.

Unfortunately my current power plant is limiting my options so I'm going with 2 gimbaled class 3 pulse lasers and 2 multi cannons with my A class distributor the lasers can fire forever.

I've been using c2g beams and c3g cannons lately. I find the c2 beams are more than sufficient to quickly take down shields of larger ships (or destroying smaller ships entirely) and the cannons are great for targeting powerplants.

My Clipper "Harpax" is my test-bed ship, I bought her a couple of weeks back to store two C3G Bursts (rare to find them in the wild).

I've outfitted her for ahem, Privateering and been running those beams as backup to the medium Rails, only 1 Booster, but 2 4B SCBs. Not inteded as a heavy duty combat built, boom'n'zoom raider and WIP. Although I spend most of my time in my Courier currently.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Gimbled beams and multi-cannons. Makes short work of just about anything. :)

Agreed... I tried to love the cannons (and particle accelerators), I really did, but I found the time it took to line up a good shot left me vulnerable and not dishing out reliable damage otherwise.

Word is from the Devs that Power Plant kills will not be an insta-kill on ships in the next update. It has a chance of insta-kill, but it can also just shut down the ship and force the player to initiate a reboot. That means ultimately dishing out hull damage might become the preferred method of combat.

My philosophy is this - my ship can handle the C3 beams - keeping one fixed forces me to be more careful about when I fire so I'm not wasting energy, but the other one being gimbled means I'm probably going to hit half the time anyway. Against smaller, more nimble ships the gimbled will end up doing most the damage, and that's fine. Against larger ships I'm going to hit more reliably with the fixed and it dishes out a fair bit more damage so it's worth it.

If a target is close, just pour on the multicannons. Once they get further away, back to beams, even if their shields are down.

So far I haven't had serious energy issues, though I do have to swap pips now and then. Does make me wonder if C3 pulses or bursts might be better for that reason.

The experimentation is endless...
