Weapon convergence adjustment

How about a function in-game whereby you can slightly alter your weapon convergence, so that you can concentrate your firepower into a narrower or wider area?

This could be a keybind so that you can change convergence whilst flying in normal space to make your ship a little more versatile at targeting firepower, depending on your adversary

This would be particularly useful for fixed weapons, and for ships like the Imperial fleet (and Mamba) that have hardpoints on their engines which are far apart.

It's a good idea I think, but you'd probably have to set the convergence in outfitting. To be able to set it on the fly, you'd essentially be using manual gimbal mounts, which is the worst of both sides. Plus, judging from the beta forum, a bunch of people would lose their minds if two more binds were added for combat.

This is a big aspect of what sets ships apart and makes them unique. Including an option to make ships more the same will not add anything of value. Flattening the landscape is not beautification.

Hard Pass.

After using fixed weapons a few different ships I would like to have say on where my convergence point is too.
I do not like the idea of being able to change this on the fly while using the weapons....

So there are two options that I can think of here.

* It is done in outfitting, you basically have to select at what distance the weapons should converge

* It can be done in the ship, but the hardpoints have to be retracted and it will take a time to make the adjustment, lets say 30 seconds, for adjustments to take place, before you can deploy hardpoints again.

This convergence settings should be for all weapons when just firing forward, so fixed weapons, gimballed when no target selected, turret in forward firing mode.

Anyone used the abomination of a ship that is type-10???

Perhaps the WORST convergence layout in the game of any ship.... for this case, yes! or just update the ship so it has 2 risen and 2 flush dorsal size 3's for maximum accuracy (like the corvettes size 4's meet the krait's size 3 mounts ;) )

so you want to have crossing beams?
cannons projectiles that collide somewhere infront of your ship?

yup, if set up that way! This is not ghost busters, where it is bad to cross the beams. and the risk that two bullets to actually to collide would be astronomical small, so we can ignore that. And if we for other reasons do not want to cross beams, then rise/lower the them ever so slightly so they do not cross.

still think for many ships it would look pretty stupid with weapons cross fire by default.

doesn't the micro-gimbal of fixed weapons auto-correct convergence to a certain degree anyway - to a point where anything closer would make the weapons shoot through the ship?

Because having bad convergence is intended.

It's all part of the character of each ship. If the iClipper had awesome convergence it would be ten times the combat ship it is now, but that alone pushes it back towards being multirole - which is where it's meant to be.

who said by default?

Have tried any ship that have hard points very wide apart with fixed weapons?

iClipper a multirole ship? where did you get that idea from? Or is all ships with a wide stance between hardpoints automatically multi role ships?

so what Federal ship are then not a primarily combat ship, Dropship? Assualt Ship? Gunship? Corvette? Or any of the Alliance ships, which of those are the primary multi role ship?

"Type: Multipurpose"

Poor ability to control its inertia, poor lateral/vertical thrust, poor weapon convergence, large hit profile and easy to hit modules.

P.S. the above ships all have good hardpoint convergence, which is...partially why they're combat ships.

The ability to adjust the harmonisation of a ship's weapons get asked for from time to time. F D I believe have stayed silent on the subject.

It seems a nice thing to be able to tinker with, adjusting the convergence distance to suit your loadout or style of flying.
