Newcomer / Intro Weapon Loadout Cobra?

So far I have got 2 lazers, two turreted multicannon's and a kill warrent scanner on my Cobra. But I can't decide to switch a multicannon to a missile launcher for the more instant kill. What have people found most effective I would like to go to more of the combat/policing mode to help the new players etc.

Ditch the lazers and get some lasers.

I ran 2x Fixed Beams and 2x Gimballed MC's on my Cobra.
Seemed to be able to take most pirates down with no major issues.

But there are several posts about Cobra loadouts.

lol me and my spelling :p So not recommending the missile launchers then? I shall have a browse on the other posts.

Missiles are much less effective now we are in version 1.1 - I'd avoid them (especially weak versus shields).

I think I'll take... a Gimbled Multicannon, a Gimbled Multicannon, then another Gimbled Multicannon, and round it off with.... a Gimbled Multicannon

Unless you go fixed with the Lasers (and I am not good enough for that), they dont seem any better than my choice, and you have all the Power (and now HEAT) juggling "issues"

Lasers or beams are far more effective against shields than MC.
And consume no ammo.

Yep. I use 2 Fixed beams for shredding the shields, and a pair of gimballed mult-cannons for the takedown. I haven't bothered with missles (yet), and also haven't really used Shield Cells. If I start to get into difficulties I boost/corkscrew away. Also learning to use power distribution more effectively using the simple logic of:
Offensive position - pips to WEP
Defensive position - pips to SYS
Holy Grail 'run away' - pips to ENG

Yep, I am sure that is factually correct. However, I had a play around with various different main weapons last night, and with the exception of Elite Vipers whos shields seem virtualy impenetrable to MC (not much better vs Beams), I really couldn't tell the difference in overall splat time. Ammo is not important to me, the cost is negligible and I never camp for long.
Experts will have a vast array of weapons and tactics for the various situations, new commers OTOH might not find the fiddling about with power levels and heat very helpfull.

It is easy enough to trial out your load outs and see what suits your fighting style and level, especially with all the new interdictions, you dont even have to go out of your way.

In my experience there is a huge difference.
I melt ships with beams, if I use my MC's it takes significantly longer to remove shield.

just go with what works for you

remember that human pilots (CMDR's) will not be easy to defeat.... so experiment with and get proficient with many different loadouts

I found Quad multicannons or a combination of Multicannons and 1-2 normal cannons was really effective as well. Point Defense and ECM. Can't go wrong with 3 Multicannons + 1 cannon (I like the turreted cannon if for nothing else other than the fact that if you have it mounted top you can watch where your target is going based off the cannons positioning.

that's an idea how do you get cannons mounted to the top. I thought you could only have the 4 fronted hardpoints....?

The medium hardpoint on the Cobra are just in front of the cockpit, you can see them out of the window when they are deployed.

Anyone use/tried Plasma accelerators? I was thinking of using 1 x Fixed Beam D2, 1 x plasma accelerator C2, 2 x class1 MCs. Plasma on a separate firegroup to the Beam.

Any good, or frustrating?

Doesnt this just reduce the amount of damage you do when pressing the fire button ? Splitting Beams and MC to different buttons/fire groups I can understand, but to reduce the amount of damage just seems to save Power/Heat than you could do just by not pressing the fire button.

Maybe a Gimbled Beam on its own FG so you could still hit shields when off the fireing line, but the fixed FG should surely both weapons.

I'm about ready to swap my class 2 gimbled pulse lasers for beams but it's going to cost me a million-ish credits to do it and that stings a little. (they're over 500K each!)

I had dumbfire missiles on my class 1 hardpoints for assassination missions against larger ships and that worked pretty well but I'm no good with fixed-targeted missiles against smaller more nimble ships and they got nerfed apparently in 1.1 so I've moved on to gimbled multi-cannons on these.
