Weapons inop in my Krait Phantom

I recently outfitted my Krait Phantom with a new batch of weapons. I'm heading out on a mission when I am interdicted. I submit to the interdiction and wait for the bad guy to show up. I target him and deploy hardpoints (I make sure the capacitors are full and have pips on my weapons). I've got the guy lined up so I press the trigger and... nothing. He blows right by me and stafes my shields. Almost no damage so I swing around for another go. Again... nothing. I get a notice that I am in the incorrect cockpit mode. What the hell is that? I go to my right UI to make sure my weapons are powered and check my firing order. All is good to go. Once again I make a run at the guy but the guns aren't popping. What is this "incorrect cockpit mode" and what am I doing wrong (that I have done 100's of times right before)?

Switch to Combat mode. Key binding in the Mode Switches section at the end - called Switch Cockpit Mode...

... it's a keybind - you set that up once. All ships have two cockpit modes though, so you will need to switch modes for different hardpoints.

Have you had a break from the game for a while? This was in a recent update. I will concede, however, that it was something we never used to have to do...
