Elite / Frontier Weapons Question..

Having extensivly played Frontier Elite II back on the Amiga 1200, I never once found a real use for the Plasma Accelerator weapons.. Even the 100mw felt like overkill.

I myself always preferd the 20mw beam laser as it makes a mess of most targets in a single glance, and it's a lot smaller.
I'm just getting into FFE and my main question is. Is there actually a situation when you would actually benifit from the Plasma's? in Frontier I never saw any ships attacking me weilding anything mote than a 100mw and then it was rare.

I have just always though of the plasmas as the "I WIN BUTTON"

No, there's nothing that'll stand up to a 100mw beam for more than a second or two, even a Panther with loads of shields.

So, no point in packing a PA except for bragging rights.

Always went for a 100MW myself, Although didn't the Small & Large Plasma Acc's took longer to overheat?

Yes, i've always thought Plasma Accelerators should be painted pink with a pair of observation domes under the mounting point.
