Newcomer / Intro weapons won't recharge?

So, my eagle runs out of power when i shoot things. And it won't recharge, happened with my sidewinder too. I've got a new powerplant, a new distributor (sp). According to the outfitter, i've got a total of 8mw, and use when deployed about 7.5, so there should be plenty left, right?

But i went to pick a fight with a wanted, and i had to run because i couldn't burn his behind from space, for lack of weaponpower. Does anyone know what's wrong.

It is the power distributer that charges the weapons, power supply ensures you can turn them on and controls heat build-up. If you don't have a large enough power plant the weapons won't power up at all.

Also ensure you move your "pips" around to prioritise the system you want to charge quickest (shields, engines, weapons) by default controlled by curser control on the keyboard.

Ship weapons are not recharged by "free" energy (total minus deployed), they are recharged by Power distributor. Here you can select 0-4 pips to distribute energy to systems and shields, thrusters, weapons. If your weapons do not recharge after you fired them, I bet you have no pips selected to weapons.

My standard Pips allocation is:
Down (Resets to 2 each)
Left
Right
Right

Thats about 0.5 Engine, 2 Shields, 3.5 Weapons

Many people advise juggling the Pips a LOT while in combat to maximise everything, but I a) am lazy and b) dont have Hotas, so this setting does the job for me until I want to run away (4 Engines, 2 Shields)

yup, that worked. Something so simple, i thought i had this thing under control. Still learning it seems. Thanks again.

There is a lot to learn in this game. Now you have the basic's, practice your pip management. Getting a good grasp of this really improves your combat efficiency.

Too right, I generally set mine similar to this for most combat and only start playing with them if it is getting hairy. Difficult to play with them too much though when using mouse and keyboard set-up.

I have a hotas joystick so I constantly shift my power allocation. Max power to weapons do I can burn down the shields with beam lasers, then 1 pip in weapons, rest to engines so I can more easily bring my multicannons to bear while strafing aroynd the target and staying out of turret firing arcs. Got caught out of position and taking fire? Full shields, rest to engines, weapons be damned!

I think being able to dynamically adjust your power allocation on the fly is what separates the men from boys when it comes to combat.

But you cant play sitting on the loo like I can ! Yaboo !
