Newcomer / Intro weapons

so been looking at a couple of weapons and noted the different types (fixed, gimbals, lasers ect.)

I feel like gimbals would be the best way to keep a target suppressed but do they do less damage when compared to the fixed variants?

what setups would people recommend for eagle ship?

Personally I find gimbal pulse on small, and fixed multicannons on medium. Gimbal pulse so they stay on target as you lead for your fixed cannons. Lasers strip shields really quick. I like pulse cuz low heat. Kinetic/projectile destroy hulls quick. I like multicannons for cheap ammo cost and great damage. I like them fixed cuz I have no problem liening up a target. Also remember that the better your sensors are effects how well gimbal/turret weps aquire and stay on target. Good luck CMDR! o7

so on a ship with three hard points would you go with two lasers or one?

thnx also

Remember that if the gimbal is below the ship it will only fire on targets below the centre line of the screen. I'd go for 2 lasers and one cannon on a fixed mount as long as it is centred on the screen.

Iirc the Eagle has 2 small and 1 medium hard points. Imo 2x gimbal pulse on the small, and 1x the best fixed multicannon you can on the medium. If you have trouble targeting with the fixed cannon swap to gimbal. The big difference between fixed and gimbal is that gimbal sway around and may not hit. If your lined up with fixed they will just hit. Good luck CMDR! o7

On my Eagle I have two lasers and one multi cannon. All gimbals. That setup works very well for me.

gimbals automatically target your prey, you just need to be roughly aiming rather than be exactly on mark. However, those can be confused with Chaff module. The fixed ones are completely manual so they are as good as the pilot.

Hopes that helps

both have been more than helpful thanks very much. look forward to setting it up and finding some unlucky wanted soul :p

The reason for gimbal pulse is that lasers don't need to lead the target. Your fixed cannon will need to lead. So as you lead with the cannon the lasers have clear shots. If the lasers are fixed they will hit the target lead NOT the target. Good luck CMDR! o7:)

Besides the already given information I would still not recommend gimballed weapons. They are inaccurate and easy to avoid with chaff launchers but more importantly they prevent you from learning how to aim properly.

pro-tip: the choice between gimbals and fixed heavily depends on where hardpoints are on your current ship - ones close to center line are better off with fixed weapons, while ones further out are better off with gimbals.

True, they're easily confused but in my experience with bounty hunting I only encountered one pirate equipped with the Chaff. Or at least only one used it. As a person that doesn't play with HOTAS but a mouse, aiming proves quite challenging. I find gimballed quite useful and effective at this stage but I am planning on swapping to fixed ones at some point.

What do you mean, small and medium. The eagle has 3 small HPs, unless you're talking about another ship with 3 HPs?

Personally I use 3 gimballed multicannons on my eagle now. Does crappy dps and has problems with shields, but at least I can focus on highspeed manouvering instead of aiming. Gimballs are really useful with flight assist off (or maybe I just suck). And you can constantly fire them with only 1 or 2 pips in weapons, even pulse lasers need more juice.
