Powerplay Weekly Powerplay Merits upkeep

Hi all, am only just getting into powerplay. I pledged to one faction prior to the 2.3 update and managed to get upto Rating 3 over 4 weeks with the merit requirements/upkeep that is listed in the sticky threads under this forum section and the math seemed to work. I earned the required merits and each week I would lose the upkeep amount as indicated in the guide until I moved to the next level eg level 2 - 54 merits a week to maintain.

I am now trying another faction since 2.3 and just had a weekly cycle pass. I had 480 merits to start with so still under level 3 but have 242 merits remaining?? I have lost 50% of the merits I had as weekly upkeep, is there a percentage formula that has been introduced since 2.3 and if so shouldn't the sticky threads either reflect this or would it not be a good idea to include this information in the 'Rating' tab of the ingame powerplay window.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

not sure what up mean by upkeep, I'm guessing you mean the 50% merits loss per week?

You lose half of your merits from the week before, and once these merits are 4 weeks old, you lose them all.

So if you got 100 merits one week, then 200 merits, then 300 merits then 100 merits then 200 merits, what would happen is:
100 becomes 50 at cycle end.
Next cycle end the 200 merits just earnt becomes 100, and the other 50 carried over becomes 25, so the new cycle starts at 125.
Next cycle the 300 earnt merits becomes 150, the 100 becomes 50 and the 25 becomes 12, for a total of 212.
next cycles earnt 100 becomes 50, plus half 150, plus half 50 plus half 12 = 50+75+25+6= 156
and the 5th cycle halves the 200 earnt, plus half 50 plus half 75 plus half 25, but the 6 completely goes away, because its over 4 weeks old.

Basically you lose half your merits every week, but if you have a large week, your merits will drop by a large amount, 4 weeks later.

For example, if you earnt 10000, then 100, 100, 100, 100 you would have
10000 then
5100 then
2650 then
1425 then
187

Aha....that was he information I didnt find clearly...thanks for that....my understanding was that the weekly maintenance was 54 merits at Level 2 from the forum guides not 50% of your total merits.

Will take it a bit easier until ready to jump to next level as it is quite a slog to get those merits and lose so many to the weekly upkeep.

The "easy" way to calculate it is you have 100% for this week, 50% for last week, 25% for the week before that and 12.5% the week before that, which is 187.5%.

So if you want to ease yourself into the next rating level, divide the level requirements by 1.875 and this will tell you how many merits you need to get each week to get to the next level, and maintain it once there.

for example rating 4 is 1500 merits, so you need 1500 / 1.875 = 800 merits per week.
