That is a bit meager as far as info is concerned.
Why couldn't you? What happened?

Salary arrives the week after you are that Rating, not the week you reach the Rating. Week 1 you do 10,000 merits, beginning of week 2 you earn the Rating 1 salary, and beginning of week 3 you earn the 50 million.

You immediately get access to the Rating 5 bonuses, but the salary comes at the end of the week.

Did you die after the cycle ticked? In that case, your wage is lost forever.

Your wage is a claim, and is lost when you die.

Other than that, the one week delay as mentioned by others.
