I was in a CZ with a friend last night. He was getting battered and I told him to boost out of there which he did. He got away and after I had finished blowing up the ship I was attacking I went to help him as he was drifting in space with no thrusters. He was 25km's away and I could see laser fire - he had a python somehow shooting him with the most pathetic gun as his shields weren't going down even though he was moving in a straight line. We were in a wing so I was boosting after him and caught up after about 5-10 minutes.
I get in range of the Python attacking him and blast it - this is where it gets weird because on my radar, he's a red target but I get a fine as soon as I shoot him. I killed him and I'm wanted. After I killed him, out of nowhere 2 more ships show up on my radar. One's a viper I can't seem to get away from so I turn and destroy that.
I can't seem to pay my fine either at the station.
So this Python was an enemy faction python in the CZ - was it because we were so far away from the CZ that when I finally caught up with it, it's status somehow changed?
After the python was dealt with he used the repair function which gave him 2% thrusters - enough to get home!
