"Welcome home, Commander!"

I'd like to be able to set a station as my home base in-game so the flight controller can greet me as someone other than just an itinerant Fuller Brush seller who's just visiting.

Of course, different reputation levels would need different messages.
Allied = "Welcome home, Commander! Your landing pad is ready and waiting."
Friendly = "We're glad you've returned, Commander."
Cordial = "Good to see you back safely, Commander."
Neutral = "Welcome back to this station, Commander."
Unfriendly = *sigh* "Here's that Commander again, Bob. Guess we should let 'em dock."
Hostile = ...game un-sets the home base flag? :S

You need to build up your reputation.

Some of the Imperial controllers are extremely welcoming, to the point of obsequiousness :D

But there is one lady controller who sounds exceptionally welcoming, when you have built up sufficient reputation with her ;)

Yeh, but even the Imperial controllers just think it's great that you're visiting, not that you're returning HOME.

I love docking at Alliance stations where "Melanie" is traffic controller.
I think she's from south London.

But it the best thing is when you flip a station with a war.
The ooutgoing Fed or Imp or Indy flight controller gets more and more snippy as you tank their influence "You are advised to keep your visit here short CMDR".
And then you win the war and Melanie greets you like an old flame. She's on an open channel and she's strictly professional, but there's a chemistry there and she knows you've worked hard to win the station for the Alliance.

Why, yes.Yesshe does!

Z...

Voice attack and EDDI will do something along those lines. The EDDI script will actually welcome you back to your home system, once it's been set in the options. If you're Imperial, and ranked high enough, it even refers to you as 'Your Majesty'. :D

I think you may need to have at least one of the HCS voice packs (possibly ASTRA at a minimum) in order for all of that to work though.

At ALLIED stations, at best I'd get a "Welcome back Commander, priority access will be given upon request".

I believe the OP just was suggesting a more welcoming voice message, which I happen to be in favour of.

Even other games such as X3 gets a warmer welcome at friendly / allied stations, eg "A hero of the (Argon) Federation is always welcome at this station. It is an honour to have you with us".

Yeah, that's a great one-two punch combo - it actually tells me when I'm within 50 LY of home as well (Wurango in my case) and says "welcome home, commander" when I return to my home system. Some nice functions there.

You forgot the line for really wealthy all-ship owners like me :D

"Welcome home Cmdr...We're so glad to have you back.
Your preferred landing pad is ready. It has been cleaned by our imperial slaves.
The spa has been prepared.
Your assistant [insert sexy female name] is waiting for you to with a brief update about the latest occurrences in our system.

Again...welcome home and thank you SO much for choosing our station as your home base"

I think I just threw up a little.

I would like it so that we can designate a preferred phrase for returning home.
I really like the lass with the northern accent, and I'd really like it if she said "Welcome back home Cmdr! Your regular pad 25 is ready and I'll get the kettle on while you land."

LOL.

She's funny.

I'd definitely second this as well, I do think we need some sort of mechanic for homebases. It's also another way to FDev to potentially implement some gameplay. This could be anything from customisable planetary bases, to a simple cost discount on transferring ships to your homebase.
