Welcome, Thargoids!

There have been a few threads recently speculating about the re-appearance of the only other intelligent race humanity has thus far encountered. But few posts have addressed how we approach this enigmatic and advanced race that we have previously tried to wipe out by crippling their living ships with a virus. We're better than that now. Space Invaders was 1330 ago!
If I'm first to meet them again this is what I'd say:
'SORRY, for the misunderstanding that led to us firing first and for the fear that led us to develop the mycoid virus. A bunch of us were against that, but we were over-ruled. We were led by fear. We have learned since then and I believe the human race is now ready for a more tolerant approach.'

What would you say if you were the vanguard of (second-ish) contact with this fascinating race??

I have a plasma accelerator with "thargoid scum" engraved into the panels.

Is that a strong enough welcome party?

Well, Cypher, you've made your attitude towards any sentient life not inside you own ship more than abundantly clear on multiple occasions, you sociopath you! :D

I guard barnacles late at night, just to protect them from human destruction. I'm going to be ok. :D

If I met the Thargoids... I'd first ask them how they managed to sneak into my private group.... I've already future banned Error (Just in case)

No relation whatsoever...I also happen to be from good old Blighty...

On a serious note, if I do come across any of those 6 sided ships my first response will be to deploy hardpoints...

Better safe than sorry...right??

Well let's face it, my ship isn't fitted with a welcoming insectoid vivarium, it's fitted with guns. I'm going to shoot them.

Every time I take my Asp Explorer out of storage and go meander exploring she has a few tonnes of "Waters of Shinrarta" on board. If I were to come across and Thargons that were feeling unwell I would donate them the "Waters". I mean, in F:FE I helped them get the cure for the virus that crippled their ships. Why wouldn't I help them?

It's encouraging to see positive responses on here, but even at the expense of my own optimism, a note of caution: Braben himself (All hail the Braben) has said that any peace with the Thargoids would be temporary. Which is why I figured the only reason the Thargoids would approach us at all would be if something worse was chasing them. That doesn't bear thinking about.
Oh, and can't rep you Razor.
