Parks Welcome to Americana

Like the title says this is a new park I am working on called Americana. This at one time was a real park in Mason, Ohio and opened in 1922 and was originally called LeSourdsville Lake and was renamed to Americana in 1977 and then back to LeSourdsville Lake in 2000 before being permanently shut down in 2002. I have a lot of history with this park and had a lot of good childhood memories when it was Americana. The park had a wooden roller coaster called the Screechin' Eagle. My grandfather was one of the original builders of the coaster when it was first built in Zanesville, Ohio as well as when it was moved to Mason, Ohio in 1940. He was also one of the first people to ride the coaster at both locations. I had way too many rides to count on that coaster but unfortunately never got to ride it with him. The park could not compete with Kings Island which is about 20-30 minutes away and is now my home park and where me and my family frequent pretty much all summer long.

So anyways onto my creation of Americana. This is by no means a recreation of the park but I am recreating some of the more memorable parts of the park like the park entrance, main building, and of course the Screechin' Eagle. I have gotten quite a bit done since starting this park a few days ago.

Lots of work still left to do and lot's of park to fill up with coasters, rides, and shops. I am a scenery and detail nut so I have to make this park as realistic as possible. My first park was very detailed and had lots of scenery. I can not take credit for a lot of that park though since I used the workshop for a lot of items. This park however will not have a single workshop item in it. Also please give any thoughts, comments, or suggestions. Thanks for looking and happy coasting.

If you have not checked out my first park "Wonder World" you can do so here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=803553921&searchtext=wonder+world

I am hoping with the update we get some more terrain painting tools like mulch to make some more realistic flower beds. Welp back to work on the park.

I haven't updated in awhile so here are some new shots.

I started working on some new main street buildings and ditched the food court idea.

I instead made the train station out of the food court building which was a copy of the original main food court building in Americana.

The main street buildings and side street buildings are completed. All of these buildings have decorated interiors as well.

This is starting to shape up nicely. But I really recommend adding the gardening and things like path lighting and (optionally) security cameras as you go, as part of each addition to the park. Adding these items is IMHO extremely tedious and thus best broken up into smaller bites to go with the development of the park as a whole.

Thanks a lot. They are definitely tedious to add into the park and you are right it is best to do so as you build. I have mostly done that with the exception of a few places. I need to get the cameras in there though just waiting to finish any and all buildings and paths in Vintage Village before I place them.

I like the general layout of the Park. Seems as you have put a lot of thought into it. I like it! [yesnod]

To be honest not really just building as I go. I need to break away from making straight squarish paths and start creating more realistic theme park type of paths. I have some OCD so my mind does not allow me to do so. By the way really like what you are doing also.

Built a new building which has the bumper cars ride in it. Foliage still needs to be added around the building.

Like I said I decorate the interiors of my buildings. This is what I have for now for the inside of the new building.

Like I originally stated my grandfather was apart of building this coaster and one of the first to ride it. He had a weather vane on top of his barn so this is my tribute to him.

I am adding a few more rides to vintage village and then adding all the foliage and details and this area will be done. Then I can start on Adventure Island which will be on an island and have some of the more extreme rides in the park.

I've been working on my park a lot here recently and it seems as if I am not getting that far. But I am building everything (No workshop items) and placing all off the scenery and I guess that it takes more time to do than I realize. But here is where I am at now.

This is a very close replica of the original sign for the Screechin' Eagle.

So all that is left for Vintage Village is to place scenery around the American Autos ride and I want to build a water ride next to the bumper cars building. Once these 2 things are done I'm going to open the park up while I work on Adventure Island.

Comments and suggestions are welcomed as always.

Well, I have a comment... BEAUTIFUL! Your gardening tastes are superb. Buildings are great, too, but the surrounding bushes really make them pop. Also, I'm going to have to steal your umbrellas. They look so much better than the 6 big triangles that I and many others use :)

that's some really nice scenery you have there!
great job.
love the fountain pond particularly, but all the gardens are nice.

It's hard to be a husband, a father to 3 children, work a full time job, and find time for hobbies like Planet Coaster. But nonetheless I have made progress on my park. So here are some more screenshots.

I finished landscaping around the Vintage Autos ride and added a water ride to Vintage Village.

And if you didn't get wet from getting on the ride, the 4 blast cannons, and the 60ft. drop. We added some more blast cannons before entering the station. #1

Americana and the Vintage Village area opens to the public tomorrow so I will get some screens up of the guest enjoying the first part of the park. I still have a few more landscaping things to do in Vintage Village but I should make opening day. I really hope we get some more bushes and trees with the next update. Plus a square painting tool for more precision and some mulch paint for flower beds. Anyways I hope you enjoy the screenshots and feel free to leave any comments or suggestions.
